Its no news flash that Carolina fired the GM, got it.

But firing the GM midseason is a POWERFUL statement. The GM picks players, coaches, salaries, FAs, training staff etc. What was Jerry saying when he made this move?

Was he saying that the team is bad because of the players?

If so, then it is probably going to shock EVERYONE with who remains after this Offseason.

Was he saying that the Coaches suck that bad?

If thats the case why fire the GM now and not later. He still got paid. Jerry is obviously not against coaches getting fired midseason.

The salary situation would be the obvious first guess, but if that is the only reason it still shocks me that Hurney was let go like that. You would think that letting him go like that would preclude his hires, i.e. Rivera to be left making personnel decisions. Not that I miss him or anything, just saying, it was eyeopening.

Whatever the reason for it, Carolina Panthers is going to be a lot different next year. A lot more than just a few new rookies and a top FA. The entire make up of our team is going to change. We are known for hanging on to draft picks waiting for them to pan out. I think that will be the first thing to change. (second if you count the uniform revolution, lol)

    • Miller didn't get the player or the puck ... Liability on the ice.  Teams are starting to pursue him behind the net and aggressively chase him down.  Slow and awkward ... Something needs to be done if this continues to the playoffs.
    • That said, I was silently hoping the Canes would go after him in free agency a couple years ago. I still think several guys on the Islander roster would fit well in Raleigh.
    • I was initially a fan of going after Giannis.  But looking at this draft class and some others that could be available via trade - I think I’m leaning towards staying the course. The OKC model is land on your draft picks, develop your stars and depth, and stockpile future picks. Especially as a smaller market, we can’t afford paying everyone like superstars.  Coby will need to get paid this offseason.  Miler will need a new contract soon, as well as Moose and Miles.  And then you gotta pay Kon at some point and the other rookies. Our depth right now really sets apart - especially when injuries inevitably happen. If we can get someone like Yaxel or Koa Peat (both playing tonight) and another big, we should be set for a long time.
