Does Peppers owe the fans an explanation?

Woodie:

"Finally, another thing that I don't believe he can or will disclose is why he hasn't signed the tender. I think the reason is that he doesn't want to have to participate in any team activities prior to training camp. At this point, I think he realizes he will be a Panther this year, so I don't believe he is holding out any hope of a trade or signing with another team. But I don't think he enjoys the mini-camps and OTA's all that much (what veteran does), and since he has not signed his tender, he does not have to be there...even though they are voluntary, there is an assumed expected attendance for all players under contract. But based on what his teammates that have talked to him have said, I do believe he is planning on being there on time for training camp, however, he just wants to train on his own until then."

Thank you Woodie !!!!!!!!:hurray::hurray::hurray:

Finally a great reply that is addressing the issues being discussed on this thread.

I would have quoted your whole statement, but its very long.

The part I did quote is the main thing I am interested in and was hoping to get some feedback from people in here. The non-signing of the tender is the part of the whole ordeal that is the most puzzling .

Thank you for taking the time to actually look at the posts and discuss. Too many just jumped on the "he doesnt owe an apology etc" band wagon...when thats not even what was being talked about.

My choice of words for the thread may have been a bit off, for I am really hoping to get the scoop from a media source not Peppers holding a press conference etc... (I think that was pretty well explained thoughout my postings on this thread though".)

Anyways Kudos Woodie for your insight!!! :cheers2:

if he has no desire to participate in off-season workouts except for training camp why would he sign the tender? that would only mean that he has to show up before he really wants to. summer school isn't the most necessary for a vet. sure, there are new things in meeks playbook that hasn't been here before but he'll probably pick that up in TC...at least that is what he is most likely thinking.

there is no incentive for him to sign the tender before training camp. it's not really a big deal.

I think the word "owe" is what has everyone all worked up about this topic. Had you asked if you think we will eventually get an explanation of what happened during the periods of silence there would have been less attacking and more productive discussions..

You guys are old enough to realize that your wants won't hurt you. ...

Ok...

What really needs to happen is the fans need to offer an apology to Peppers with an explanation of their actions in so viciously attacking someone who played out his contract and expressed a desire to try it out somewhere else.

I don't think Peppers is losing sleep over message board posters being mad.

I'll put it this way, I don't think they should intro the defense @ the first home game.

Intro the O and let Jake get the big time boos, he's very mentally tough.

I personally wouldn't boo him. It would take a LOT to boo a player on a team I root for though.

    • He does have speed. 21+ top end speed is very fast for a linebacker and his 3 cone drill time is considered excellent, close to elite.
    • This is awesome because you get to see the perspectives of the scouts--get a glimpse behind the curtain. I wonder whose doing this was; I am curious as to why David Tepper allowed it. Maybe it was his wife. Maybe Dan.  At least from my perspective--and probably one shared by other fans--when David Tepper bought the team, he closed everything off too much to the fans, and really didn't give an explanation. Things were obviously done because he (and/or some others wanted to do it). Remember when they used the guise of construction and all that to keep fans from seeing the team during practice? I know there are laws and safety and all that, but Tepper could've made it happen. And, of course, we all know that they essentially fired Jeremy from his independent contractor gig as a photojournalist. I never understood why they'd do that (and the negative reverberations obviously affected Jeremy and ultimately this place--i.e, us fans). The pie was (and is) certainly big enough to throw some scraps to the independents. I realize that you can't necessarily open the floodgates, but a few different perspectives from indy journalists whether in word or photos is a good thing in my mind.  So, it's great to see different perspectives. I will say this however: it is not without risk, as you know there will be some buster who will be calling the scouts out if the players flop. I think we should all keep in mind that the buck stops with the GM. It's nice to have one, however, that is so convicted in his people and process--and ultimately success, that he's willing to give fans access to this type of information. Pass this on to Tepper.
    • I hope he ends up being our best ever at the position. Ryan Kalil left big shoes behind that we haven't quite been able to fill since.
