If Ron Rivera Stays...

Not likely.

They'll continue to use occasional 3-4 looks, but I seriously doubt it'll be the base.

With regard to Beason, the combo of his contract numbers and his recent injury history doesn't speak well for his future here.

And honestly, with how good they've looked of late, why switch?

First off we dont really have the right pieces for a 3-4. We would need a real nose tackle. We would also need 2 pass rushing olb's (Davis could possibly fit one of these spots. Maybe CJ in the other). Drafting Manti Te'o would be idiotic. In my opinion, if we did want to switch to 3-4 we would draft a NT in the 1st and a pass rush OLB in the 2nd or vice versa. I would rather stick to 4-3.

I just don't get why we keep asking this question.

This team is not built to run the 3-4. You can't take four good 4-3 backers and suddenly go "awesome we'll just go 3-4 to use them all". Plus we finished pretty well with what we already run...

This would be a terrible terrible idea.

One day we're going to stop asking this question every damn offseason.

    • Mcshay thinks so as well because that would potentially set them up to take Jerimah Smith potentially and not worry about going qb.  Essentially keeping all of your picks and not having to package to move up for someone.
    • Not surprised - he definitely was raw technique wise and was dominant in college because of his freak athleticism for a tackle. That same advantage goes away against NFL edges without technique. The plan was always Walker to play LT this year, gauge how well Icky comes back from his gruesome injury, and then figure out if Freeling will be ready to start by year 2.
    • Normally I am with you but at some point the value of taking him creeps in.  Like I said I wouldnt do it for a 1rst or 2nd due to the circumstances but I damn sure would burn a 3rd.   But its a moot point, he is talented enough and there are double digit teams that are going to invest a 2nd on a guy that has potential to be a top 5 pick if things didnt get upside down
