Manti Te'o lied about his Girlfriend dying

I had lunch with Captain Tuttle just yesterday.

Here's my take on what happened.

Manti is gay and he wanted to cover it up for many reasons; the way in which he was raised, his religion, the school he attended (Notre Dame), and the fact that he was a (star) football player. I believe Manti asked Ronaiah to help him cover his sexuality. Whether or not Ronaiah is his partner or is even gay, I don't know. Why he would ask this specific person to help, I don't know. But I'm sure Manti had his reasons. They made Lennay as Manti's online girlfriend and people went with it. At some point along the lie, I believe Ronaiah began taking advantage of the situation; raising money for leukemia and apparently for another person's Stanford tuition. Eventually, the fake death occurred. At this point, Manti realizes things had gone too far but he loved the attention he was getting from media, so he kept quiet; which would be consistent with what teammates have said regarding Manti's actions during this fake tragedy.

As the hoax began to fall apart, Manti felt the pressure and attempted to come up with a plan to play victim.

That plan doesn't seem to be going well.

His teammates apparently questioned how close he was with this "girlfriend" because he had hooked up with plenty of women on campus while they were supposedly in a relationship.

From who? His hand? That's the same "girl" a lot of guys are dating.

The only thing that would make this any weirder would be if he drew a face on his hand (Senor Wences style) and introduced it as "Lennay".

So... If this does end up being something that Teo didn't know about, what's the over/under on arrogant, judgmental huddlers retracting their statements vs. ignoring that their psychic abilities once again failed them and instead resort to talking about how stupid Teo is?

Honestly, the bad part is how do you know who or what to believe?

Let's say he comes out with a "here's the real truth" statement: deceived, gay, in on it, whatever.

Knowing that he's already been caught in more than one lie, will people believe him?

He referenced her at least three times in the media AFTER he knew it was hoax, at the very least ... so he was at least somewhat complicit, if not in on the entire thing.
