DT is a lock in the 1st round

Recommended Posts

My gut says we take a DT in the first. I dont know if it will be Richardson, Williams, Hankins (hope not) or someone else but I see this draft shaping up like that. Based on where we pick and what our needs are, DT seems to be the most logical choice. I base this on need and who is available. Considering our needs

1. WR: There are some guys available with talent but no one jumps out as being able to suit up and be a consistent threat. These guys have high ceilings but need some work.

2. OL: We need an OT probably more than we need aDT but I dont see anyone being available at 14 who is not a reach.

3. Safety: Elam and Vocarro are projected as first rounders but are they really much better than the guys that are going to be available in the 4th?

4. CB: No shut down guys available and this is probably a lower priority than the other 3 unless both Gamble and Captain walk.

With all this in mind, it just makes sense to me that the value will be there for a DT. This may change before April but as of today, this is the way I see it.

Thoughts?

Just remember this when the Giants took JPP, DE wasn't a need and they had two stars already. They had needs at other spots on defense as well. A sleeper pick for us since Gettleman is here now is ezekiel ansah. He's similar to JPP in that he's a raw player but a freak athlete with nice size. He's shooting up draft boards and it wouldn't surprise me if that was a move made by Gettleman.

Well I don't even think it's the most likely scenario. It's the one I prefer, but we don't really know Gettleman's drafting tendencies (he didn't have anything to do with the draft in NY) and I think he's just as likely to get an OL or WR in the 1st. I'd estimate the chances (with the info we currently have) of him taking DT, OL, WR are all equal.

There's a lot of time between now and the draft, a lot of time for guys to rise and fall. Maybe one of those WRs really separates himself with good drills and 40 time at the combine and at the draft he's the most obvious BPA at our pick.

I certainly hope the cards fall in a way that makes a good DT the BPA and most obvious choice for us, since I think that's what we need most, but it could work out some other way.

My dream scenario would be to somehow get Jessie Williams, Lane Johnson, and Patton with our first 3 picks. Then sign a vet RG in FA.

No way in fug that happens without trading back into the first and getting a 3rd.

Some combination of:

1. Hankins, Williams, Richardson (in that order)

2. Warford, B. Jones, Fluker, D. Thomas, maybe Johnson (not sold on him yet, but I'm hearing decent things about him)

4. Patton

would make me cream my pants.

Gettleman said something like "you need big men and touchdown scorers to win" so from that quote you can expect both lines being upgraded along with th receiver position

That statement was quite generic. It could also mean we're looking at RBs, TEs, large safeties and corners like Seattle's, DEs, QBs in addition to WRs and Linemen. I wouldn't read into that comment too much.

Everyone will come around on Johnson by draft day.

Great measurables / Super athletic / Dominated some of the best pass rushers / And now is doing well at the senior bowl.

And can easily hang another 15 lbs on his frame with no ill effects on performance
