Fox cutting OTAs short

NOTES: The players let out a cheer Tuesday when coach John Fox announced he'll be cancelling three days of OTAs. The players will have this Thursday off and also will have to practice only two days next week -- Monday and Tuesday.

I know it's good to throw your players a bone. Fox does this alot. HOWEVER, they are installing a new defense and our last game played was a pretty bad loss. What's wrong with using these three days to get better before taking July off?

They have all of training camp to do that. Besides, you don't want to wear your guys out now. It is a long season, and now is really the only time to give them some rest.

Oh yeah, well all of you are ghey. :toetap05:

Seriously though, 3 days in June will not burn them out. The defense could get a lot installed in three days. Just sayin'.

It's not the burning out, it's the comradeship between players and coaches that he's working on here...

I'm not gonna blow a gasket on this, but I tend to agree with SouthCak. You don't get better by taking days off. Maybe the three days could be used in the film room, or simply discussing the plays that are going to be or have been installed. Biggest thing to me is I don't want to see my team come out bad after bye weeks, and this may set a trend towards being too relaxed. for those who don't know. the Steelers practiced during the bye week before the divisional round last season. not a normal week's practice, but still practice. To my knowledge the gmen, titans, and ourselves did not.

As a former coach(looking to get back at though) this usually was the most effective way to win your players over as well as keeping them fresh.

TC will show the bugs and iron them out.

Like a good presentation, the mind can only absorb what the bottom can endure. Sometimes too much of something has diminishing returns.

    • Before the draft, Panthers G.M. Dan Morgan was vague when asked about the future of edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. After the draft, a report emerged that the Panthers engaged in pre-draft conversations about possibly trading Clowney. It was no shock, then, when the Panthers moved on from Clowney, on Thursday. In eleven NFL seasons, Clowney (the first overall pick in 2014) has played for the Texans, Seahawks, Titans, Browns, Ravens, and Panthers. He fully intends to keep going. “I’m definitely gonna play well,” Clowney told Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com. “You can mark my word on that. I don’t care where I end up playing at, I’m gonna play extremely well.” Clowney seemed to disagree with the Panthers’ decision to part ways. “I think I played well for Carolina [last] year, considering the circumstances that . . . unfolded for me,” Clowney said. “I played with a bunch of guys that was hurt this past year. And I ended up playing extremely well for them. So it is what it is. I can play the game. I can play football. There are 31 other teams. I just hope another team gives me that opportunity so I can prove myself again. I feel like I can do that.” “I got a sense then they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney said. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kind of had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”
    • Didn’t they sign an edge from the Vikings who’s a multi year starter?
