I hope so. I just don't understand the love for this guy. As a Panther I hope he turns into an All Pro but there has never been any of evidence to suggest he can play in the NFL. He is a poo talker and people love him for it. He gets a pass for the coaches telling him to give a cushion despite the coaches saying they benched him for doing so on his own.

even if he did give a cushion when he shouldn't have, that doesn't mean that they weren't telling him to do it too much anyway.

and i don't know that i can blame him. he was playing it safe in giving a cushion, which is why they probably told him to do it when they did.

i think the talent is there, he just has to have the game slow down for him a bit. i think it does significantly this year.

and the reason for the love for the guy has to do with his attitude. he just has to get his comfort level in the defense and with the job to match his fire. that should happen with time.

like i've said about the WRs, tho, doesn't mean we should sit around and wait. if we see an opportunity to upgrade there, we absolutely should. no reason to wait and see if someone turns out to be as good as we hope without making an effort to ensure we have the best possible players at the position.

Wow. Hurney is gone and we still love bargain bin shopping. I actually would've been excited by this when we discussed him as a potential option a few years ago prior to bogging ourselves down monetarily with our own players. Now, meh... At best, he's a Marlon McCree type of player for us this year.

Why cant we go Marcus Trufant over Florence? Trufant is a better player and can instantly come play our Nickle position. I forgot Florence was a former Charger

florence was with the chargers for one year when rivera was there...his first....when he was a lowly LB coach.

kind of overplaying that connection there.

i doubt picking him up and signing him to a one year deal keeps us from picking up a CB later.

Yep...he is a body and voice. I seriously doubt he was signed with the intention of being part of a solution on the field

True. Rivera was still a LB coach when Florence was there.

But, yes I do hope to see Gettleman add another capable starting cornerback through FA or the Draft.

FA: Mike Jenkins, Cason (Charger guy, PLEASE!!!), Routt

Draft: Desmond Trufant, Jonthan Banks, Jordan Poyer, Darius Slay,

i actually do think the intention is for him to be part of the solution on the field this year and i think he more talented than just fodder. i don't think, tho, that he's meant to be a long term solution. he's meant to help out for the next year and he's exactly the kind of player gettleman was talking about picking up to plug holes. i doubt he would have been picked up if gettleman didn't think he had enough in him to contribute for at least a year. until proven wrong, I'm gonna go under the assumption that gettleman knows more than those pissing all over this pick up.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
