Even a shitty no talent QB like Ponder is getting weapons.

I guess they're trying to give him a fair chance before they boot him and draft another QB.

Panthers' fans: Jennings suck! Bucs overpaid Goldson! Seattle is Eagles 2.0! Even with Welker, Peyton still suck in the Playoffs! Steven Jackson is old and injury proned! Etc etc etc

Actually, I don't think any of that.

I don't think Jennings sucks, I just don't think he's some sort of incredible WR. I think that having a solid, vertical offensive attack, with an incredible QB, helped him out.

I think that the Bucs did an awesome job getting Goldson. He got paid what the market demanded. He was worth every cent in my opinion. And honestly, this is the move that scares me the most in our division.

Seattle is improving. They're not trying to piece together a team in the offseason to make some sort of incredible machine, they're improving in places they needed to improve, which is what a team needs to do.

I do think Peyton has troubles in the playoffs, and I'm not sure how much more Welker will help out with the team. Will he be an improvement? Yeah. But there's only so many touches, and most of those are going to go to Decker (being familiar, having trust, etc)

Steven Jackson is a monster, but again, there's only so many touches they have on offense. Their defense is still not very good, with a terrible pass rush.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
