Bobcats Looking At Jonny Flynn

Recommended Posts

The Bobcats are expected to target Jonny Flynn to help fill out their roster before the end of the season, according to Peter Vecsey.

Flynn spent part of this year playing in Australia and reportedly drew interest from the Lakers and Grizzlies at some point this season. Despite being the No. 6 overall pick just five years ago, Flynn is no more than an end-of-the-bench player at this point in the NBA.

So... Pargo or Flynn?

Pargo has had some solid games for us, but there's no real upside there. Flynn, on the other hand still has potential in my opinion, and as unlikely as it is, there is still a shot that he re-captures what little success he had his rookie season and lives up to his potential.

Flynn is absolute garbage, anyone thinking he still has "potential" hasn't been paying attention. His 2011 season was literally one of the worst in NBA history. He is clueless on defense, isn't a facilitator, can't shoot, and hasn't shown the same burst ever since his injury (not that he ever really understood how to use it anyway). Couple that with his small size and he brings basically nothing to the table. Considering all the PGs that went after him, he's one of the biggest PG busts ever. He's not even a competent player in australia, which is quite literally a bush league. If he's brought in to only sit at the end of the bench, fine, but as a player that's all he is and all he ever will be.

His rookie season was better than Kemba's rookie season. His sophomore season was about on par with Kemba's rookie season (look at the percentages, the per 36, etc). Flynn has had injury troubles and that's the main reason why he didn't develop. He had a solid rookie season, and then majorly regressed during his sophomore season and has only gotten 29 games in very inconsistent minutes since. I'll give ya that he's an awful defensive player; was one of the worst defensive PG's starting in the NBA his rookie year.

It's pretty clear that you have somewhat of an agenda against him. Perhaps he beat your favorite team in college? I'm not sure, but the part that I put in bold was the single most ridiculous thing that you said. He's an All-Star in Australia and he's putting up 17/6 in 33 mpg. Obviously he's not tearing the league up and taking it by storm, but to say that he's "not even a competent player in Australia". Yeah ok lol.

*P.S. I'm not a big Flynn fan, and have never really cared for him, but I'd like to bring him in for a 10 day.*

Great post, I agree with everything you said.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
