DeAndre Hopkins visiting Panthers today

Oh please, don't try to conceal blind SEC/Clemson hate, and do some research. Nuk ran a 4.41 and 4.50 at his pro day, compared to White's 4.47. You're also comparing a 20 year old Nuk to a 7 year vet. White was HORRIBLE his first few years. I remember laughing at Falcons highlights because he'd drop so many of Vick's passes it was insane that he retained a starting spot.

I do agree he's probably not 14th pick worthy, but he would definitely be ideal if we could trade down into the 20s and pick up a third rounder.

1. So I shouldn't compare pro White to rookie Hopkins, but you should? Coming out they're very similar - but with Roddy being a better all around athlete.

2. Like most of the country I'm barely aware Clemson exists as a college sports venue. I literally don't care about them enough to hate them.

3. Interesting that Hopkins 40 at school jumped all the way from a 4.57 to a 4.41. He sure doesn't play like he's a 4.4 guy.

4. He's probably absolutely not 14th pick worthy.

His ceiling just isn't as high as you'd like from a WR1. He can be decent. But his potential is dwarfed by the others and there isn't a distinct enough difference between his floor and their''s to justify picking him over a Patterson or Allen.

Anyways, to clarify, I think Hopkins is a good receiver who runs good routes and is very polished. I don't think he's ever going to be elite or special and don't see the point, especially at #14. We can grab smooth/polished in the second with Robert Woods.

If we're not going to grab our future #1, then don't bother with the position at all. Continue to hope that Smith holds together another year, LaFell shows up and Hixon's leg doesn't fall off and target the position in a major way next year.

Agree he is not a burner but against 4.3 cbs like Xavier Rhodes he destroyed them..

Don't really want tavon or Hopkins in the first unless we trade down. Patterson and Allen are only wr I'm sold on as first round picks. Go CB or OL in first and pick up WR later. There are a lot of good ones but IMO no great ones in this draft.

Coming out....Hopkins is simply better than White was.

I don think you watched Nuk....every immediately said when his combine time came out that it didn't reflect what they saw.....as no team could keep him out of the endzone.

If you don't think any WR is worth the 14 then fine....but it is really hard to argue WR X is worth it and Nuk isn't. Bc Nuk poo'd on whoever X is last year. Again, compare him to his teammate Watkins....Watkins has the higher ceiling. Nuk likely is the better WR. All depends how important that extra ceiling is to you....

and a large percentage of great ones weren't perceived as locks to be NFL greats....

White coming out was a very equatable prospect to Hopkins. Hopkins deserves to be talked about in the same range White went in. He would likely also take a few years of development to adjust to the physicality and overall speed (read: not running speed) of the pro game.

Don't pretend Hopkins is something he's not.

White quit eating cheeseburgers and being lazy....finally got good.

I think Hopkins can be good quicker than White.

Please provide a source of some sort that suggests that White, instead of needing the acclimation process to the NFL that a player of his build, style, and skill set would need when steeping up to the NFL, was instead just lazy and fat and apathetic.

There are better articles but that was a 3 second search...

White talks about "finally growing up", quit eating crap food and taking things seriously, a coaching staff that finally showed him the importance of practicing hard bc he relied on just his natural ability to get by for so long, etc.

White has talked about it several times....how he went from a guy Atl regretted drafting to a stud. It wasn't just adjusting to the speed on the NFL....

he does play like a 4.4 as his 17 yard per catch avg backs it up. and he is worthy of the 14th pick. to many times he got vertically up the field and behind coverage.

    • Thank God DM used that #8 pick on a bona fide WR1 and not some bum pass rushing prospect like Stewart or someone else. I believe Tet is legit WR1 material and going forward will be our long term answer at that position since we desperately were in need of one once they traded away DJ Moore.  Tet could possibly end up even being better long term than someone who I respect a ton as a WR in Moore. Evans has been a pleasant surprise and great TE/FB depth piece going forward who could make the most of his opportunities.  Any good offense worth a damn in the NFL has 3 TEs that can do multiple things and being scared by Ian Thomas play for years should makes us all appreciate what Evans is quietly doing as a ROOKIE at one of the hardest positions to learn at the pro level.  Keep cooking DM. This season is not over obviously but seeing some growth out of young talent finally is a breathe of fresh fuggin air for once.
    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
