I'll take a direct quote over wishful speculation.

A direct quote that isn't a full quote. Did you wonder why they didn't use the full quote?

Isn't this a new development?

He said it in February but all I've ever heard reported is the "sell 2 years after his death" line. Also first time I heard he been approached by two interested parties.

JR's emotionally blackmailing Charlotte and NC to give him money he doesn't need in a time where the government's shutting down essential services and the governor's the bad guy?

Good to see everyone's priorities are in order.

Who cares what JR is trying to do or what he thinks? The point is to keep the team alive and keep it here. The ties to Charlotte and keep this team's roots alone are worth my money. I hate JR as an owner, but I will seperate my feelings for him and the bigger picture here of the team. JR won't be here forever but if I can help make sure the Panthers are, I'll be happy.

How is "Give me money or I'll rip the thing you love away from you," not emotional blackmail?

Because he didn't say that, he said the team was to be sold two years after his death. Just read the article. If he wanted something else he could just move the team himself or sell it right now. It's not terribly difficult to understand.

Most likely to save word count. It's not like this quote is some kind of shocking news.

Go find the full transcript if you want.

Spoiler: it's not going to help

And I never said JR is evil. He's just a business man trying to squeeze and extra $200 million of tax dollars into his pocket simply because he can.

Like the old poker saying goes, it's a sin to let a sucker keep his money.

So JR pays for his upgrades then croaks in 2 years. The team is sold to the highest bidder. That buyer pays in excess of $1 billion. Immediately he needs a new stadium to increase revenues. And guess what, when NC balks, there is not one thing stopping or deterring the new owner from moving. If the city and state have public money in the game, the new owner would have to abide to the agreement in place or pay a poo ton to buy his way out of it.

If Richarson simply cared about money he could make in the last years of his life he would just sell the team right now. That would be the easiest thing to do for him. If he didn't want the team to stay here he wouldn't waste his time with this issue.
