Jordan says Charlotte Hornets "sounds good"

adam silver said it could take up to 18 months to change. so this could take a while, I just hope they let us know its going to happen at some point

18 Months would equal the beginning of the 2014-15 season, which was our target from the start. Everything seems to be falling into place!

A lot of folk have been bringing up the fact that New Orleans' rebrand was 'expedited', but the reality is that it will have been almost exactly 18 months since Benson declared his intentions to rebrand his squad before they actually take the court as the Pelicans (April 2012 - October 2013).

I don't know anything concrete, but there have been whispers of something happening pretty doggone soon. I'm going to steal a page from the Cats' PR playbook: not sure about the timeframe, but I'd be shocked if we don't know something really soon.

I agree with Zod, if they announce the name change then it has to be done this year because no one would by merch. If they don't announce it this year, it's not because it's not happening, it's because they don't want merch prices to come to a stand still.

It's essentially the same thing they did in New Orleans. The only difference is no one knew exactly what they'd settled on until January, so it might've seemed like the wait between Hornets and Pelicans was shorter. The reality is that the two timelines (assuming the 'Cats act quickly) are pretty much mirror images of one another.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
