Official Round 1 General Talk Thread...

None of the guys fans want to fall to the Panthers will be there at 14. Teams like San Francisco will trade up and nab good players because of a glut of picks and a lack of spots on their talented roster for them. Panthers end up taking someone nobody expects or trading down...

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that “several executives” believe the Raiders will take Houston CB D.J. Hayden at No. 3 if they can’t trade back.

The Raiders are open to trading down if a deal can be swung, but they are prepared to take their man in Hayden with the third pick if a partner can’t be found. Oakland needs help all over the field, especially on defense, and Hayden has been steadily picking up steam as the draft’s top corner. The Raiders may not be able to trade down too far if they want him. The Lions at No. 5 and the Browns at No. 6 also have a cornerback need.

So Fisher number 1, DJ Hayden number 3.. Crazy

    • I get it's disappointing, but this was definitely a seller's market and the only players traded away were players that would be depth pieces at best for us. A lot of the top teams (Avs, Stars, Lightning, Wild post Hughes) really only traded for depth pieces. Just a terrible trade deadline all around and I'm glad we didn't cave and sell the farm for somebody like Tro (even though I like him and he fits our team well).
    • Yes the Icky thing really kills us this year with a 17.4 I think, million dollar hole, for nothing.     His extension would likely have reduced his 2026 hit. But the extension was going to be massive.    At the same time, the massive extension money is largely freed up now and can go elsewhere.  There is just no way he should be in line for the same payday as pre injury.  I say largely freed because maybe we can do a little hollowed out extension to give him a window to get back and stay with the team past this year. Snap count and/or other incentives for 2027. Something that leaves the door open for him to get a fresh contract that reflects his value moving into 2028. Whatever that proves to be.  We’d have a lot of that money that was earmarked for his extension available to us starting next year.
    • What a major letdown. This team will forever disappoint me
