the growth of silatolu...

it's the overcompensating for any player that takes place.

they may say they are confident in their recovery and that they are healed up, but the truth remains that 1) the injured part is likely not quite totally healed and may still be weaker and 2) that they will have in the back of their minds that they have to protect that injured area and cause the muscle groups around it to work harder and that can lead to trouble.

the body healing is just one aspect of it. injuries are almost as much mental as they are physical. it effects how you function.

Yep I get all that...Kalil is just one of my favorite players/people on the Panthers. I would be devastated if he turned out to be Beason/Gettis 2.0.  I just didn't think about it when thinking of Kalil. Probably my homerism.

It's funny to think about the state of our offensive line last year and then read from that punk Schein that RG3 and Luck could have made the playoffs with Geoff Hangartner, Gary Williams, Zac Williams, Jeff Byers, Bruce Cambell, Thomas Austin, Jeremy Bridges, and Mike Pollak playing snaps. The Redskins had a terrific line, and I'm not familiar with the Colts.

I think we fired our O line coach and promoted the Hall of Famer guy. I hope that is a smooth transition.

I remember the first game against TB where Silatolu was beaten by McCoy play after play. It was ridiculous. There was a notable difference in the playing of him in the 2nd game, though. Glad someone tracked this information. Good find.

I think having Silatolu could really help Kugbila out a ton. Having another guy who just recently transitioned from DII to the NFL to help guide him will be a bigger deal than I think most realize.

good point

So is it the consensus that Silatolu has turned the corner and is now a quality started? I sure hope because we are so thin at the position.

Can we afford Hamburger to start while Kugbila develops with Bell next to him? After looking at the FA's I see more talent left at RT versus OG.I feel we should upgrade the RT position to improve both the running game and protecting Cam.

    • Going from the 32nd to 27th ranked QB is a huge achievement indeed.
    • I do expect the offense to fall back to earth next year if everything stays the same.  It is kinda like how the Panthers and even now the Chiefs won in the past.  Winning many close, coin flip games.  It never lasts from season to season usually.
    • Biased is one way of putting it. The NFL is an entertainment product in the strictest legal sense. Although I might yell it out on game days, I do not believe the games are outright “rigged” meaning there is one team that is going to win no matter what happens. It’s impossible. There’s too much variance in the game that can prevent a truly rigged game from happening unless there was cooperation from many parties involved. What I am thoroughly convinced happens is that the NFL and referees “manage” the games towards certain outcomes. And that is done primarily through referee crew choice however I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more going on behind the curtain.  The NFL uses the officials statistical tendencies to call penalties is to keep games close to drive user engagement. For example, If a crew tends to call more false start penalties, and there’s a game between a heavy pass offense where the NFL would like to manufacture a close game where it might have potential to be a blowout, then they’ll assign a crew that will slow that offense down and keep the game close.  There is an insane amount of marketing and now sports betting money that is married to the NFL economic ecosystem. To think this whole system is fair when the referee union has no outward accountability structure for poor performance is just naive. It’s closer to the WWE than outward appearances suggest, but it’s not a fully scripted outcome either. So for those who say “stop watching” if you don’t want to watch a “rigged” game, it’s an entertainment product. You can still be entertained by it, even if it’s not as fair as a truly merit based sporting event.
