Rolling Stone Poll: Ten Worst 90s Bands

it was an internet poll and korn's last few albums (particularly the dubstep collab one) have been trashed.  i don't think they "should" be on there but i'm surprised they didn't get voted on.

Yea i just saw Rolling Stone and figured it was their list. Which made me laugh cause they had Cobaine as a top guitarist. Yea there older stuff has been pretty bad, never listened to the dubstep album, because well...

i know a lot of people that still listen to Korn though.

lol. I put them on sometimes for nostalgia. Self-titled is still pretty damn good to me. I have a lot of metal friends who think Korn is in that genre, i laugh at them but still enjoy the music for the most part.

yeah man I'll still put on the ST and the next couple albums on the very rare occasion...

If it wasn't for Korn, some of the bands I listen to today probably wouldn't be so eager to use 7 and 8 string guitars... They definitely made it cooler for bottom ended riffs... along with bands like Fear Factory and Meshuggah...

Yea like i said before, they are pretty unique for what they are.  They are fuging depressing and demented as all get out though, but fieldy is pretty awesome and i jammed Korn songs with friends when i was younger, so its nostalgia. I'm surprised my parents didn't think i was a serial killer when i was young.

s/t and life is peachy are still pretty intriguing listens.  the first album especially because you can tell that davis' head was a complete mess.  the production was also very direct and had this raw but controlled quality about it.  it was mostly recorded live without extensive overdubs from what i've read.

as their albums got more and more slick and overproduced though the quality leveled off big time.  "untouchables" was the last album of theirs i bothered with and that was more than ten years ago.

agreed. all these years later i still can't listen to the last track of s/t. by far the most terrifying song i have ever listened to in my entire life.

90's mainstream music unleashed some of the most depressing music lyrically, maybe it was just more up-front rather than metaphorical. But it is a weird generation of music to say the least.

Why these lists don't mean much and are really stupid altogether?

None of these bands are truly the "worst" of any era, because if they were, they wouldn't even be relevant enough to discuss.  All of those bands have something in common...  They were extremely popular at some point because A LOT of people liked them/their music.

That's one thing that I've never understood.  I didn't closely follow Creed, in fact, my sister had their album and I HATED them.  But, years later they had a couple of songs (like 3) that I liked...  The ones they played on the radio and music channel non-stop.  So, I was finally like, "Okay, I see some admirable qualities.  Now, I kind of get why all these people liked them."  By the time I reached this state, I quickly realized I was late to the party as they had already crossed that threshold of being "corny" and "uncool."

Don't get me wrong...  I still wouldn't have bought their albums, I just thought a couple of their songs I heard over and over again were somewhat catchy and playworthy, but...

It was a weird dynamic, as I always thought they were unlikeable because Stapp sounded like an easily imitable cartoon character...  So, when I finally came around to them only to discover that they were no longer popular, just shows how finicky we are as a society.

I always have hated Nickelback and didn't like any of their music ever, but the same thing happened with them.  White people galore were gnawing at their jock straps, then they suddenly became a joke band and I'm like, "well, someone made them popular...  what happened?"

Remember that "Songs in your music library/on your iPod you are embarrassed of" thread I made?  Same principle...  Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Hootie and The Blowfish, etc.  We build them up to tear them down, lol.
