Name change a big F U to Bob Johnson?

Why would he feel like a douche bag, and why would you want him to feel like one?  Bob brought basketball back to Carolinas, and I'm grateful that he did.  Also, people keep saying he named the team after himself.  Where are ya'll reading that at, or where are ya'll getting that information at?  I've been searching the web, and can't find nothing confirming that he did that.  I've just seen a bunch of people assuming that he did.

It didn't have to be BJ, there were other people that were going to do it if Bob didn't (Larry Bird)... Bob just had the most money.

It was never about basketball with Bob, it was always about money.

So, I can apply this same logic to Jerry Richardson and the Panthers.  If Richardson didn't bring the Panthers to the Carolinas, someone else was going to do it.  We got that settled, so cool.  Whenever someone brings this up about the Panthers, I can just say that.

Anyways, you say that it was always about the money with Bob.  Do you know him personally to make that claim?

Not quite. There were other viable ownership groups lined up to bring a basketball team to Charlotte.

At the time the Panthers were awarded to Charlotte, Jerry's group was the only one pursuing a team as far as I'm aware.

I'll keep the argument going just because I have nothing to do...

Let's make one thing clear...

Richardson was the only known individual to announce that he was going to be placing a bid to have a football team in Charlotte...

As far as the Bobcats go, there were at least four and possibly more individuals that were placing bids to bring a basketball team back to Charlotte (Bird was one of them)... please do your research before spouting off at the ass and getting all mad at me.

And it was obviously about the money for Bob Johnson as he never had anything to do with the team... he was rarely at games and he never interacted with the fans...

It's time to grow up and realize that Bob Johnson put us in the mess and MJ (even though he is doing a shitty job) is trying to get us out of it.

I don't mind owners being motivated by money. Basically because more wins = more money.

Bob was just a terrible owner.

My thing is when money becomes your primary goal... and not champiosnships.

Richardson and Jordan at least show up to the games, I never saw BJ at a game...

On top of that you know your owner is genuine when he still gets out there and practices with the team...

^ This.

As for the team name, the nickname Bobcats if I recall correctly got trounced in the vote that was supposed to name the team but was still picked.

As for Bob having anything to do with bringing a team to Charlotte... incorrect.

The NBA when the Hornets left, made a stipulation in the move that Charlotte would get a new team.

    • It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.
    • And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited
    • Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
