Name change a big F U to Bob Johnson?

Never seen you in a Bobcats thread. Guess your a fan now too, huh?

Anyways, I've searched. It's funny because in my search, I haven't come up on any hard line evidence that says he changed the name to bobcats to name the team after himself. A bunch of opinions and opinion pieces, but no real facts showing he named it after himself. Where did Mr. Johnson say this at? Show me an article or something, bruh. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, I have no problem with that. Just show me something where Mr. Johnson states the team was named after himself.

I like how you left the "Bob" out of his name when referring to him.

You mean by me calling him Mr. Johnson? I'm a young dude. Was always taught to respect my elders, man. Lol, did you think I was tryna leave it out on purpose? Sorry man, nope. Lol

Sorry but Mr. Johnson as you called him sold the team before the playoff run. MJ was the owner during the end of that season. The change in ownership happened on February 27th when MJ went from being the second largest share holder to being the largest one.

Also most major sports sites announce the team name as being named after Bob Johnson after the Bobcat name was still picked after it had lost the vote to the flight nickname.

Casual fan. Friends with several hardcore ones. Mostly just amused by the recent hubbub.

Yet to hear any alternate rationale. Can you give a good reason why the Bobcats name was chosen against the wishes of the fans or not?

Really?

So, I can apply this same logic to Jerry Richardson and the Panthers. If Richardson didn't bring the Panthers to the Carolinas, someone else was going to do it. We got that settled, so cool. Whenever someone brings this up about the Panthers, I can just say that.

Anyways, you say that it was always about the money with Bob. Do you know him personally to make that claim?

Alternate rationale? I don't know why he chose the name. I dont know, just like you dont. You won't hear me try to rationalize anything. All I asked for was evidence. I just want to see a website or something where Mr. Johnson is quoted as saying he named the team after him. That's it. I know you, and plenty others in here don't like the man, and that's cool, that's your perogative, but I just want to see him quoted as saying that. I've already said, if I'm wrong I'm wrong. Just show me something, Mr. Scot.

Show me 2 and 2, broham.

When they polled fans on what team name they would prefer, Flight won by a large margin if IIRC and Bobcats was one of the bottom 2. BOB Johnson still went with BOBcats

In other words, you can't.

Thanks.

I understand that. Where does it say he changed it because he wanted to name it after himself? You got a quote there for me from him?

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
