Scott Fowler: Wins are Cam's litmus test this year

Hard to justify not calling a run and letting Cam get a yard more so IMO. Short yardage throws are his weakness....and Cam has been stopped what once in short yardage to my memory for no gain?

The guy is a QB and had a wide open target. I challenged the playcallin often. Despite run or pass in that situation, it worked. I find it impossible to argue against that.

I'm sure a better offensive line and play calling can/could do wonders for Cam's short yardage/goal line passing (along with better, improved or new receivers).

I'll just wait for the season to start and not make incomplete assumptions on a growing third year player.

Well, I don't think it is an incomplete assumption to say short yardage throws are a weakness currently of Cam's.

But if you only need a yard late in a big game...I don't think there is a man in the game with better odds of getting it than Cam currently

I know articles are going to be written like this during the off season. So no biggie, I get it.

Nonetheless, I think it would have been more humorous or convincing, if Fowler would have asked Ron Rivera, what % the Head Coach makes? Lol.

How many games did Rivera blow the last few years, with his dumb clock management, late game defensive blunders, end of half offense, and his apparent  fear of scoring points when he has a 14 point or more lead, and/or when the Panthers are in a close games. I tell you it's more than Cam cost the team.

I'll just leave it at that.

You're right. That would've been funny.

One thing I'd like to say to all of you is that in my estimation, it's easy to say that a QB lost because of the defense (or some other part of the team). To be fair, that is true.  But, think about the best in the game today. Sometimes the great ones win notwithstanding their defense, not because of it. Just saying.

You're still oversimplifying things.

If you check any of Luck's, RG3's Wilson or Kaepernick's games last year, they had incredible good fortune due to their teams overall success (Run game, coaching, Defense, etc.). That's never been the case with Panthers during the Rivera era.

The same can be said for elite NFL QB's (their team success). And even if that wasn't the case, they're experienced and skilled enough to occasionally win games on their own. Cam will get there as well. Give him time; maybe next season!

So unless, you're acknowledging that none of the so called young guns are in Cam's class, you're slightly reaching here.

How many games did Rivera and the defense blow during the 4th quarter the past two years?

Remember (for example), in all Luck's 6 game winning drives, the opposition had enough time to score and win the game, but the defense (no  matter how bad they played up until that point), held them off. That's a team.

Luck, actually played poorly in many of those games, but still came out with the win, due to good coaching, late game defensive play and adjustments, and of course good fortune. When has Cam ever had any of those in a 4th Qtr?

I''m not saying Cam hasn't made mistakes. He has. But at the same token, I've watched him play games where he did as much as he possibly could/can, and the Panthers still found ways to blow the games, he gave them leads in the closing minutes. That's the part I have a problem with. The Panthers coaching, defense and special teams has not even been adequate/NFL Caliber in most of those scenarios, resulting into losses.

But to answer your last point, he also fumbled the ball just before having the chance to ice ATL before that legendary defensive collapse.

In either situation, I simply expect better results next year.

He still got the yard....and even though I am not a betting man I would have bet he could of gotten it again on fourth down. That fumble IMO was more Cam stopping Cam.

Who pissed in your corn flakes?

It's over and we're beginning a new season. Let's move on.

I agree. I just don't think an easy toss into the end zone falls outside of Cam stopping Cam. He isn't exactly The Golden Calf of Bristol out there despite his need to get better at short passes.

I'm just waiting for his college clutch game to surface in the NFL. Granted he needs help, although those are incriminating examples so far.

In the context of the discussion, he was spot on. Don't know what you are arguing here.

Read above, maybe you'll find the answers you seek..

What is there to argue, or is it more like bickering?

Can't be bitter about the past forever. There were many mistakes last year from coaches to players.

I've already wasted enough time last year being mad. I'm focused on 2013 and improving in all areas.
