I knew Jamarcus Russell lost weight.. But...

I don't understand all the talk surrounding him. If he sucked 3 years ago, what makes you think he's going to be any better after he's been away from football so long?

Because he had mad potential. The only thing holding him back was immaturity, laziness and being in a terrible organization. Now fast forward 4 years later and he seems to have lost the laziness and immaturity and skys the limit for him now.

Not only that but he is the poster child for low risk/high reward player. A team could sign him for the vet minimum for a QB with tons of upside that is only 27 years old.

Here, let me put it this way. Brandon Weeden was a 1st round pick and hes 30 years old (or close to it) now if you are a NFL GM. What is more appealing, signing Brandon Weeden to 7 million after drafting him in the 1st round, or getting a new, improved Jamarcus Russell with tons of upside (pass 70 yds on one knee) for pennies?.

It takes work to be an nfl qb. He never put that in before but his ceiling was unlimited. He should get a shot as some teams third string. I'd love for him to replace jimmy next year.

Does a WR with a fast 40 have an unlimited ceiling? To me Russell was the QB equivalent of that....just a big arm. All the other aspects you look for just never stood out

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
