Al Jefferson Signs for 3 years, $40.5 million

Expect to be really bad defensively, probably worst then last year. Zeller and Jefferson would be the worst front court defensively in the NBA, but have some serious scoring pop at a decently effective level. While playing Bismack, Jefferson and MKG at the same time would leave no floor spacing at all for Jefferson to work in. So either MKG gets traded for someone that can stretch the floor or the Bobcats will run with MKG, Zeller and Jefferson as the starting front court.

Just because Zeller doesn't block a lot of shots doesn't mean he can't defend.

In college he was pretty effective hedging ball screens. He moves his feet very well and is usually in good position. He may be able to get backed down on the block but so few 4s in the NBA are back to the basket guys anymore.

Tanking over a bunch of guys who haven;t played real competition is stupid.

Harrison Barnes was supposed the be the best high school player since Lebron James also.  He was so highly thought of that he was a preseason 1st team  college all-american before he had ever played one game.

How many of you would tank a season to try and get Harrison Barnes (who is a good player BTW)?

Hopefully no one.

I thought barnes was better than mgk then and i think he is better than now.

Jefferson and Zeller are not as bad of defenders as everyone is making them out to be....

Jefferson is a decent on ball defender that struggles in help defense, I'm ok with that.

Zeller is an excellent athlete, just because you don't block shots doesn't mean you are a bad defender

To bad you would be wrong.

The better scorer only avg. .2 more then the guy who couldn't shoot. While MKG was better in every other category.

Plus MKG had more 20 point games while playing in 8 less games.

So maybe you need to rethink your statement.

I'm going to go ahead and guess I'm the only who thinks this is a bad signing

Nah, I've been hating on it since it was announced the Bobcats were interested. Just think it's the wrong year to add Salary to a below average team. I understand why the Bobcats made the move, but I think it was possible to wait till next year to make the major FA moves.

You have to build a team gradually. You just cant built it all at once except if you're the you know Big Markets (Miami/Brooklyn/etc). Rome wasn't built in one day. Lol

Probably the best thing ever came out of you. Kudo

But it's more like this:

(1) Hibbert

(2) Noah

(3) Horford

(4) Jefferson

(5) Lopez

No need to Kudo me sir, I know my basketball and I called the Al Jefferson signing before FA. I know I wasn't here long but I called it.

Also Al Horford is a pf, he just plays center because the Hawks have no other bigman.

It's an overpay, but I think it's a good move in terms of length and the player. It's the biggest free agency move we've ever done and he's a great player at a position that we've fielded trash. Not to mention that, unless his skill set drastically erodes, there are teams every year looking to move assets for a big.

What centers are going to be FA next year?   Cousins won't come here and Monroe won't be let go, so who?  We've needed a 5 like this for a decade, can't wait and hope someone actually wants to play here.  We got him pretty cheap honestly.

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
