If we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs, Rivera should NOT be fired.

That still doesn't mean he couldn't have talked to Chud...

It goes something like this... Rivera tells Chud to stick to the game plan, Chud continues to ignore the game plan... It's that simple

You said, Rivera never spoke to Chud... all I'm saying is that you don't know that.

I'm aware of Rivera's comments about being a little relaxed when it comes to Chud, but once again does that mean that Rivera didn't speak to him? It sure doesn't.

Why is that so hard to understand lol.

I never said "Rivera didn't talk to Chud". I said it, "it doesn't matter". Cause the evidence suggest he did not, and even if he did, he had to be prompted to, because of his own mismanagement. That's why I said, "So What"?

Why is that so hard for YOU TO UNDERSTAND. Now you're playing semantics. Lol.

I don't care what Rivera said or didn't say to Chud. The evidence, already exist that he was too lax, and was prompted into action by Hurney's firing (i.e, he wouldn't have done or said anything, if it wasn't for external reasons). Rivera up until that point, was clueless.  Rivera was also in, on Chud's offensive changes as well, and admitted that. That's the take away.

I don't think that the talk of Rivera being fired if we miss the playoffs is all based on us missing the playoffs. I believe that some of the talk is related to us missing the playoffs with poor coaching decisions. We could've won at least two more games last year with better playcalling and coaching decisions. Again, I think that it will be coaching not our win/loss record.

Could of also won some of those games with the same play calling..... if we weren't starting guys that should of been backups.

I wonder how many of the Patriots losses in Belichik's first year there, or his losses when he was on the Browns were attributed to poor coaching decisions.  I don't think I've ever heard that said about him.

But yeah, Rivera is in his class, if we just give him a(nother) chance to show it.

Rivera chooses the starters, FWIW.  And he lets the GM know what he needs on the roster.  We'll never know if he asked for a better safety, but everyone was sure high on Naka when we signed him.

Yep. That's why I feel 3 years is very fair shot for any new coach. He's been given three straight years, including a number 1 pick, to build a playoff team, something we haven't had in a while. How long are you willing to wait for Ron to get it done? As one guy said, we fired our GM, a bunch of coaches but kept him and allowed him to work on some things. It's put up or shut up time.

I remember Nick Saban going 9-7 with the Dolphins, but people were already done with him. He only got two years. What does Ron get?

Bolded the important part.

What evidence lol?

Quit acting like you know what did or didn't happen. Reporters aren't allowed in on meetings and I can guarantee you (speaking from experience) that you never talk to reporters about meetings, especially meetings about someone losing their job. How do you know he was prompted to talk to Chud? Is this more of your speculation.

Please quote Rivera when he said that he was in on the changes that Chud made.. because currently you aren't bringing a lot of facts to the table...

Choosing between 2 guys who both shouldn't be starting....is a talent issue more than coaching. More examples than just Nakamura

The GM also tells him how much he can spend and in our case it was very little because Hurney handicapped us with ridiculously stupid contracts.

Rivera did the best he could with the money that we had. Also you didn't take into account losing Jon Beason, Ryan Kalil, Chris Gamble, and Jonathan Stewart to injury.

Lol

I was thinking the same thing.

What a blanket statement/comparison for someone to make.

No one here [who criticizes Rivera] does it because of his losing record. No it's done for his decision making, game clock, and poor executive management.

There's a difference.

Now, saying all that, it doesn't mean Rivera can turn into a good/great coach. He can. It's just that so far, he hasn't demonstrated that. I hope he can.

So if you have guys who shouldn't be starting in the secondary, why wouldn't you let one of your FOUR great options at short yardage go for it on fourth down instead of putting your team in a position where they're depending on these non-starting quality players?

Why would you play prevent over and over when it isn't working?  There are more examples where coaching failed us far more than any single player.  And somehow, when it's undeniable that it IS coaching, then it's the coordinator's fault.

The buck stops nowhere, apparently.

Rivera did fire Murphy mid-season but what you didn't point out is that he promoted the assistant who was already on the staff... It's not like he went out and hired a totally new coach that was unfamiliar with the team and how things were run...

So...exactly what Ron did with the new OC position? Why couldn't he have fired Chud in the middle of the season and promoted Shula to OC then? It's pretty common for mid-season fires to be replaced by "interim" coaching positions to not hinder the development and progression of the team. And then in the offseason they can evaluate potential permanent hires to come in and implement their new system over the offseason.
