Soccer '13-'14 season

Muller should have been in way earlier. Guy always makes something happen...can't beleive Goetze didn't finish on the doorstep. Shot it right at Casillas.

Not starting Muller is always the wrong call, unless he's just not fit. I'd bet the score would have been inverted if Muller started.

There were several missed chances for both sides. Not really an exciting match from a neutral standpoint, but it should make Germany thrilling.

Well the first leg was beyond disappointing.  All that possession and nothing to show for it.  My boys really have their work cut out for them on Tuesday.  I agree with the earlier comments about Mueller not starting.  Both he and Goetze better start in the second leg.  Also, Boateng is an idiot.

Stay away from Benzema. You guys can have Marcelo.

lol

Wenger always had a hard on for Benzema and now it's reported that Madrid wants Suarez.  Arsenal will have about  £100m to spend this Summer and I think Wenger would love for Suarez to move out and for Benzema to move in.  Arsenal have a great midfield but terrible strikers and only 1 good winger.  He will either go for Di Maria or Benzema.

Ozil is an amazing player but he was asked to do way too much after Walcott got hurt.  When Walcott and Ramsey were healthy, Ozil was on fire.

Arsenal are left winger and striker away from being dominant.

I still would rather see them bring in a quality but cheaper striker like Mandzukic and use the money on a midfielder like Pogba then bringing in Suarez. Oh well, seems like Perez has a hard on for Suarez...

If you do lose Benzema, you will definitely need and out-and-out striker. If Suarez can carry his form to Madrid, he may very well eclipse 50 goals in all competitions there. Best you'll get from Mandzukic is like 25-30.

Yep. As talented as Suarez is overall and the amount of revenue he'll help bring in, I think Pogba and Mandzukic provide a better shot at establishing Real as a more complete team than Suarez will. I mean, if Perez was that interested in big names, why wouldn't he instead go after Gotze?

The Gotze to Bayern deal was done a long time ago. Gotze wanted to stay in Germany.

It's funny watching Clint Dempsey look like Superman at Seattle, when he was a complete non-factor in his last stint at Fulham. While he's definitely more fit now, I think it speaks volumes about the difference between the leagues.

I'd like to think that Ozil will really shine behind a world class striker (and no, that doesn't include gutless Podolski despite a few decent clinical finishes recently).

I went to Arsenal vs WHam and definitely agree with the winger comment - Arsenal, especially with the unit that is Giroud up front, are crying out for crosses but they always piddle about with the ball at the edge of the box before losing all ideas and passing it back to the halfway line or giving up and lumping it in the air to an unchallenged goalkeeper.

I can see Sagna going, but personally can't see Giroud going, and can't see how all of those players mentioned in a previous post leaving will free up £40 million. The Emirates is surely fully paid off now so I reckon Wenger will have a decent budget this Summer.

I can't wait for today's game - I really want Liverpool to win this title.

My team Gillingham have confirmed our safety in League 1 for another season

    • We both know there's more that goes into batted passes than just the height of the QB. Most people here have readily acknowledged this and there were numerous discussions about it before we drafted Young. But if you are presenting a POV that Bryce's height hasn't tied to issues with his footwork then there's nothing anyone is going to be able to say to sway you and you know this. Even beyond the footwork I recall a redzone play where Bryce couldn't see around his right tackle at all where a receiver was waiting practically alone in the end zone for a touchdown. There are real world circumstances that are going to show up over the course of the upcoming season and it's up to Bryce and Dave Canales to make adjustments and do anything they can to mitigate negative instances and yes that begins with Bryce's footwork again. Thanks for your time. Have a nice weekend.
    • I'm arguing that should those supposed deficiencies, like height or pocket footwork, be as consequential as you and others have claimed, then there would be a clear, observable impact in the data. That's not unreasonable. For example, batted passes are often used as a size-related concern (see: Baker Mayfield), yet Bryce ranked among the lowest in deflections at the line. If his stature is such a limitation, why isn't it showing up there? Or are you suggesting that's why his passing yards fall short of your expectations? If the latter, I would hope that you're not discounting yards left on the field due to drops (of which he led the league in).  Also, asking for specific, measurable benchmarks isn't aggression... it's accountability. If that feels uncomfortable, it might be worth reflecting on how much of your anti-Bryce argument is grounded in subjective perception rather than objective metrics. So, again: do you have any specific KPIs beyond total passing yardage, height, and weight that you consider relevant to evaluating whether a QB is top-10? If you want to add YPA and passing yards per game to those metrics, that's fair, just be clear about it. But let's not pretend that asking for clarity is some kind of provocation. I'm simply trying to understand the actual criteria... not just the vibes.
    • Jackson actually played quite well for a #2 CB #54 in PFF coverage ratings 12 pass break ups solid in run defense..... Hes gonna be targeted just because Jacyee IS being avoided.
