First Half Observations

What is scary to me is that I see Shula's offense in Shula's offense.

And what I mean by that is that I'm seeing the 1996-1999 Shula offense.

They've talked real big about "keeping" elements of Chud's offense, but I don't see'em.

What I see is the predictable run-run-pass-punt short-yardage scheme he ran down in Tampa.  And so far, it sucks.

While your worries may yet prove true I would think that right now we are looking at executing basic parts of the offense and seeing what teams are doing to stop them.  This isn't a big deal YET.

Star is for real.  Saw him pushing guys around consistently.  On one play in particular Fua gets pushed back with ease (granted he doubled for  second before the center peels off to go to the second level but does he have to roll 4 yards back in half a second.  The eagles running back to  going behind the right guard.  Star pushing his man back and laterally right into the running backs hole.  Star pushes the guy into the guard and the Kraken cleans up since there's no where for the RB to go.

It's preseason so no big whup but I would have loved to see Cam hit Smitty on that broken play.  Smitty broke wide open and Cam on the move threw it 5 feet over his head.  I've seen other great QB in that same type scramble except they stop, get set and fire a strike.  Granted, he'll take a hard shot but you'll complete the pass.  I just imagine in the regular season he does that.

Team looked much better after they decided to start using the running game.  That balance helped Cam out a ton.  I'm not surprised the offense looks simple.  It's preseason.  I would keep Cam on a short leash and there's no reason to do anything like the zone/read in the preseason.  That's one play the team knows how to run.  Save it for the regular season.  I also don't know if Chip Kelly's offense will be as effective once a few games have been played and defenses have a chance to see what he does and how to game plan against it.

I was disappointed out front 4 could not get more pressure.  Foles had a lot of time.

Gettis looks like the 3rd receiver.  He's the only guy I think you could put on the outside along with LaFell so Smitty could actually play in the slot.  No one else has the size or speed to be outside except Gettis.  I'd actually like to see Gettis and Ginn on the outside with Smitty in the slot.  That much speed on the outside with Smitty in the slot would be a nightmare if Cam has any time at all.

Lastly, remember, it's preseason.  Nothing we see really matters here.  Regular season might as well be a different game.

It was disappointing, but I kinda had a feeling this would happen. The 2nd half is looking more of the same which tells me it's a preparation issue.

The thing with preseason is that it is very inconsistent in itself. It shows when we played so well against the Bears and are absolutely turrible tonight. A lot of things are going on outside of the team's intention to win these preseason games.

Can't say I am "worried" about any aspect of this team just yet. But I've taken notice of some the holes that the Eagles are punching. The OLine wasn't too bad last week but are getting raped tonight. The Defense was awesome last week, especially the DLine, but we're barely getting any push up front and the secondary are all slack-jawed.

Were the Bears that bad or are the Eagles that good? Hard to tell...getting kicked in the teeth during preseason is not exactly a bad thing, but all the negatives have to be corrected instead of ignored. Else, we'll be having some problems.

I think the Bears were that bad. Still not convinced the Eadles will look as good when the real bullets start flying though.
