Second Half Observations

Even then it's dress rehearsal and specific positions will get a parade of players coming through rather than sticking with a solidified group of starters.

Valid. And game four will be about finalizing the roster.

If the pattern holds, there'll be some roster turnover between now and then, though probably not much of any real significance.

The only thing that I'm really concerned about is that Cam needs to be doing more audibling; they may be waiting until the preseason is over but with the quicker play calls defenses are going to have more time to assess the formation and Philly seemed prepared for a lot of what we threw at them early. I did notice that on two occasions it looked like Cam was trying to signal to a receiver and the receiver in question (I think it was Ginn and Gettis) seemed oblivious to the cue.

just my 2 cents:

Gettis could be a starter in this league.  He looks more like the prototypical possession guy than LaFell.  I'm not suggesting demoting LaFell.  But, Gettis deserves to make the roster, especially if his performance in preseason and practice continue.  Right now I'm leaning more toward Adams and Pilares getting cut.  Of course, then you cut a potential backup return man, but in terms of firepower of offense, Gettis brings another dimension.  I doubt AE, Hixon, and Ginn really have anything to worry about, but Hixon needs to show up during preseason or he might become a ghost.

O line has some issues to iron out.  However, pass blocking was solid for the most part.  Run blocking was a train wreck.  D-Lo is the king of getting stuffed on runs between the tackles.  There is absolutely no daylight there.  That has been consistent and obvious in both preseason games.  We need a starter at RG.  Williams is slightly less than adequate.  The o-line ultimately is the reason we got beat so bad in the 1st half.  We simply could not put a drive together.

D-line didn't come out with as much spark today (on the road, in preseason, facing an alien offense).  THey just didn't bring their A games.  Philly dictated on the line all night and dictated game tempo.  We never got into a groove.  I think our defense was definitely taken aback by the Chip Kelly style "hurry-up" tempo.  They were consistently getting back up to the line within 15 seconds of the previous play going dead.  It was kind of impressive.

Foles, to me, made excellent decisions with the ball and managed the game better than Vick.  He had that one pick in the red zone, which was just a kind of weak throw under pressure.  The score of that 1st quarter could have easily been 14+ to nothing.

The final score of 14-9 really doesn't accurately express how thoroughly the Panthers got beat tonight.  Our offense couldn't manage a TD in 60 minutes of football?  I was disappointed, but not overly concerned.

GETTIS >>>> LaFell >>>>> AE

Gettis has not caught a ball the last 2 years.

He has not caught a ball against a first string D this preseason.

LaFell? He has been solid against real defenses...and it wasnt yearS ago.

Way too many chicken littles worried about the offense or defense.  We are running specific plays to see how they do not running specific plays to move the chains against a specific defense.  We are still installing elements of the offense and playing vanilla on defense.  No matter how many times it gets repeated that preseason is not representative of what we will look like, there are still folks who try and read too much into it.

You can't tell what kind of offense we are going to run right now. We are still trying to figure out what works and what doesn't against certain defenses.  Last night it was a blitzing 4-3.  Next week it will be a blitzing 3-4.  It gives our guys plenty of looks against different schemes but how they do may not be an indication of the longterm.  These guys haven't worked together much. Williams and Kalil didn't play much last year at all.

We saw the OL all last year....and we haven't upgraded. OL talk isn't exactly chicken little talk....

they also sucked the first quarter of the year with Kalil. G and RT play was an issue last year. Issue still.

It is basic football not a scheme issue getting them or not being allowed to gameplan
