Why were there no designed roll outs for cam?

We all know how horrible our o-line is yet they called no roll outs for him and just let him drop back to get sacked or pressured. However as soon as clausen comes in he rolls out of the pocket for a pass. Does that make sense to anyone? Why did they call none for cam but for clausen?

The only thing I can logically deduce is that the coaching staff wants to see the offense winning basic football plays, even when the defense knows they're coming. The offense is vanilla but it's time for them to nut up and beat the guy across from them without any trickery. The 2nd and 3rd string offenses have utilized a broader playbook, probably because this is the only time they'll get to run them in live action.

This makes sense because goddamn the headache I would have if they are being idiots with the way they are trying to run the first string offense if it wasn't true.

We have won 2 games in 3 without giving the rest of the league any film on:

 

certain protection packages

2 TE sets

goal line sets

screens (there were a few)

roll outs and bootlegs

run-option

tosses and sweeps

runs outside the tackles, etc...

 

I know it hasn't been pretty.  And it is clear that we cannot be successful (at least in the short term) just running up the middle.

 

Which makes more sense: RR and Shula are oblivious and don't realize that the play calling has been ultra-vanilla, or that the are purposefully presenting the most basic formations without game planning?

 

I'm not saying they are geniuses and they have some serious issues with the power running game, but at least for now (since we are 2-1 and have beaten 2 playoff quality teams) let's assume there is a method to the madness.

I can only hope it is to hide much of what we are doing on offense for the regular season.

My gut tells me this is not the case though. I want to believe otherwise.

If they continue to run this offense in the regular season, that makes Shula and RR the dumbest people to every have NFL coaching jobs.

Well, to be fair, I already thought Shula was based on his past. You all kept telling me he is so much better now and has changed, so I remain hopeful you are right and that he is just holding his cards for the regular season.

 

I'm not ready to pass judgement on him yet, he may come out and light it up in week one. Who knows.

I don't care if they run a high school triple option, do something impressive!

They have managed to make Barner look awful, a guy who just had a 1700 yard season. I almost cried when I saw Reggie Bush highlights from last night.

This better be the best decoy job since WW2 when they put a dead pilot somewhere off the coast of France with fake secret plans for the invasion of Europe effectively putting German reserves in the wrong areas.

      I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
