Anyone else find it funny that suddenly, "sophmore slumps" arent even possible anymore?

Can anyone name one single media analyst that even mentioned a sophmore slump even being in the realm of possibilty for Luck, RGIII, Kaepernick or Wilson? You hear nothing but absolute praise for these 4 QBs 24/7, I havent even heard a single time where it was even brought up even as a very slim remote possibility. Infact, its almost as though the media as traveled in the future and know for a fact all these 4 QBs have amazing seasons and none of them struggle whatsoever.

Now, rewind to last year.. How many times do we all remember hearing this about Cam.. "Cam's rookie season a fluke?" "Sophmore slump for Cam?" "Will defenses figure out Cam?"

I just find it funny that the media has already decided that its not even in the realm of possibility for the "big 4" to have a down year. Poor Cam, if only he was drafted a year later, he would then have been drafted in the post sophmore slump era!

The only sophmore slump espn reported was for Brandon Weedon....wtf who cares...way to go out on a limb ESPN lol

Im sorry but Russell Wilson is in the perfect senario for sophmore slump. No offensive weapons and the rookie season wasnt that amazing to begin with and he has the most amount hype aside from RGIII

I wouldn't be surprised if they all struggle, and/or don't live up to expectations.

What would the media do then?  :stuff:

In all honesty, it's not like most of them really had great years, with any pressure anyway.

Seattle, San Fran, and Wash, were all running teams. So it's amazing how their QB's get so much of the credit, as if they carried the load and the burden the way Cam (and yes, though he's over hyped) Luck did.

I think the deal with Cam was he was sooo outstanding as a rookie everyone thought it was going to be impossible to repeat.. And Hell, he did almost just that...

Cam set the bar very high and was able to put up good numbers last year.

I have said and stand by it that the 3rd year is the show me year, and Cam will do just that!

As far as the new young QB's, its great for football. When was the last time you remember having this many electric QB's playing at once?

However, we will see these guys take a step back. Statistically one of them will do great, but there is just too much film on them now, much like Cam of last year.

And the read option, its the wildcat 5 years ago, it wont last and defenses will have it in check this year....

We could see some of those guys struggle big time...

But Its going to be a fun season watching Cam flip off the whole league and lead this team to a SB...

Ehhhh well him and Kaep are on far superior teams than RG3 and Luck which goes a long way toward racking up wins.

If RG3 has a down year they will blame it on injuries.

In terms of raw talent I think Wilson is actually the best.  Uses his mobility properly, has great footwork, he's sharp as a knife and he's very accurate.

I think Luck is most likely to have a disappointing season.  Its gonna be hard for him to get those picks lower with a complete lack of a running game and a cruddy oline, not to mention a sketchy defense.  It's likely that defense doesn't hold those 3-4 pt leads he gets with 10+ mins left on the clock.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
