Do we rebuild like the Jags or retool like the Cheifs?

yeah the chiefs arent a really good example. they had stars at almost every position but unfortunately the two holes they had were at QB and head coach. once they filled those two spots you suddenly have a dominant team

Exactly, the fact that the Chiefs were 2-14 last year, despite having 7-8 Pro Bowlers( which I know means next to nothing, but Kansas City is a small market town, I feel them making the Pro Bowl means something since so few people see them on TV).  We have the same talent, but coaching is where we fail.  Another offseason of unloading the garbage, shoring up the OLine and getting another dynamic offensive threat(please Sammy Watkins), and I think we'll be good to go.

we have much more holes than they had though. look at their secondary and OLine compared to ours. that will take more than one offseason

Players being solidly behind Rivera was a big factor.

I can understand why he did it, and there's some logic to seeing if Rivera can succeed with a new GM (the Bears did the same thing with Lovie Smith).

I just think that question is now answered.

This is why you never retain a HC because: "The players like him.".

Same as with a GM who hands out ridiculous contracts at positions that don't warrant it.

A lot of that going on in Carolina lately.

So we start cutting veterans, trade good young pieces, and rely on rookies for next year?

Sadly, that's what I think will have to happen.

Look into cutting previously untouchable players like Smitty (Dunno how his contract is set up), getting new Tackles, WRs, and getting more talent on offense

I don't agree with the decision.

I understand why it happened, and there's precedent, but i don't agree with it.

That's what we did four years ago (Foxy lame duck season). Now, four years later we're doing it again? He'll no.

We are a good HC/coaching staffs, WR, OL, and Corner away from being a very good team. We should be able to fill those needs through the draft and FA if JR isn't cheap.

it would be a dumb mistake to get rid of cam newton. please read my post that supports this, it can be found on "Stopping Newton - the word is out" thread

This is the question I keep ping ponging in mind. One side of me says we should have a fire sale, weed out the left over stench from the Hurney and Fox era.  Trade Smitty for a 4th round pick, Trade Stewie and Dwill since one is aging and one is always injured for mid-late round picks, and heck if the price is right, maybe even trade Cam, I like Cam but I am 100% behind Gettleman and if Gettleman really feels Cam is not the QB for this franchise and he wants to draft his own QB, I would be behind him 100% assuming we can get some good draft picks for him.

Another part of me says keep the players we have, but just hire a new coach and coach up the players we have.  Yes we do have some talent.  D Will is ok but is aging, Smitty has lost a step and Stewie is always hurt. Gross is 100 years old and will retire soon anyway, Cam can go from Peyton Manning to Blaine Gabbert in a matter of minutes.  I have to be honest, the part of me saying we should Jacksonville Jaguars this mofo is winning out.

All these "core players" have been through two coaching staffs over the last several years and under Fox these same players have had very inconsistent seasons, and under Rivera we have flat out sucked and lost a ton of games.  If we hire a new head coach, it will take a season or two anyway before we make noise.  By then Gross will be gone, Smitty will be 36 and Dwill will be in the last year of his career.  I say hire a new HC now, start brand new and conduct a fire sale and just do these players like we did Beason, better to trade them now for something when these players wont be around for the new HC in the next couple years anyway.
