Jonathon Martin

Also, I think it's interesting for all of the saber-rattling internet experts saying, "they're strong football players, Martin should've whooped his ass!"

Let me ask you guys...  When you, AS GROWN MEN, have an issue with a co-worker, do you immediately "whoop their ass?"

I'm not a huge guy, but I had a rough childhood, so I trust myself to fare well in physical confrontations, whether it's delivering it or receiving it...  That being said, I DON'T desire to be in physical confrontations.  I choose to avoid them as much as possible.

Why?

Outside of the obvious reasons, who would one want to incur any kind of unnecessary damage upon themselves?  AND in what world can you, as a grown man, get in a physical altercation and not suffer repercussions for it socially?  Especially if you "teach them a lesson" and truly beat their ass...  You most likely will catch charges.  Additionally, if you don't catch charges, you most likely will have some sort of stigmas attached to you as a result, with not all of them being good - "hot head" comes to mind.

When we're talking about "everyday man" jobs, we would be fired if we fought someone else.  In the world of football, if Martin would've fought him, regardless of the outcome, the only thing that would come out would be that Martin is an unstable headcase and potential locker room problem, which likely would leave him underpaid or unemployed.

Could he have handled it differently and told Incognito to chill early on?  Absolutely.  But, these guys are human too, not just giant muscle-bound, meatheads...  Well, at least players not named Incognito.

A disservice is being done by labeling this as "bullying," save that term for children because it leads to the idiotic responses this thread is full of trying to blame Martin for being "bullied" as a grown man, because people picture juvenile things. What Incognito did is criminal extortion and harassment.

You guys got this all wrong

If Martin had a problem he shoulda settled it the old fashioned way, draw a circle in chalk in the stadium parking lot and put yer dukes up against the guy you have a problem with. Might makes right, that's why I turned out so great was because I did this in my formative years.

....you wanna arm wrestle? Let's go put so I can prove to you I can drink ya under tha table. 7 shots in 7 minutes. You can't do that then yer not a real man

We'll manage half a sack.

that's fine. greg hardy said it best: your options are to get the ball out insanely fast and make a dumb read as a result of disguised coverage, or hang onto the ball and wait until you're sure and get hit by greg hardy.

the best thing the dolphins can do to counter us is quick strikes, but that was the falcons gameplan as well, and while they had some success with it, it also led directly two all three of matt ryan's interceptions.

Incognito was bullying and terrorizing a player, and being a racist f@'k head. I wish him and his inbred, racist, trash family nothing but the worst. In almost every situation there is that one guy who can't seem draw the line between what is and isn't socially acceptable, and it seems Incognito is that guy. I call it the Farva syndrome.

There is nothing wrong with making rookies pick up a meal tabs (even a 30k meal tab) or making them carry veterans pads. I dont know if y'all remember this but Dez Bryant was a huge puss when he was a rookie and refused to carry team members bags, so when it was his turn to pick up the meal tab the vets ran up a 60k tab. That is all fine as long as its a one time thing and nobody is gettting taking advantage of.

For people blaming Jonathon, there is a huge difference between being a huge puss(Dez Bryant) and being a victom of abuse.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
