PS4 or Xbox1?

Man, there are a lot of issues with the PS4s...makes you really wonder about how the XboxOne launch is going to go...

I've been looking a lot of building a steambox, even though valve is still vague on the details of the OS, and I'm still coming in above the $550 or so.  My hang up is the processor.  I love the Intel 3350P.  Great value ivy bridge processor.  The AMD APUs always interest me with their good integrated graphics, but they still become a bottleneck at 1080p (from what I've read online).  While the AMD 7850 is still a great card, the rest can fall inline to keep me under that budget.

I did read something interesting though about the Linux issue.  It was in regards to developer support in porting their games to linux.  Seems to me that could be an issue.  Well "could" is something that gets thrown around A LOT in these kind of transition days for the PS4, Xbox One, and Steam Box.

After checking out the PS4 in best buy yesterday, I'm way cooled off.  Sure it looks nice, but is it $400 nicer?  Most important to me is it fun?  Does it bring more to the table in terms of cool game play?  I read where the xbox one will use the kinect to track your leaning while you play a FPS, and your character can actually lean that way.  If true, that's a step.

Here is a friend and I playing split-screen COD.  For those familiar with the game, maybe you can tell a difference here or there but I can't from the current gen game.  No big deal, I completely expected a port.

This streaming and video capture feature is definitely the bee's knees, though.

I guess I don't understand steambox. Its just a pc you hook up to your tv? Can't you do that with a long hdmi cable or even wireless hdmi?

they're cutting microsoft out of the pc biz because of windows 8

but yeah, you can build your own steam machine, or go buy a dell and put the Steam OS on it and call it a steam machine

what it is, is an entirely open platform console

Oh i see, there is a steam OS. Linux based I assume? Pretty cool. I have an extra box I may try it out on.

Also, probably could cut down on cheating SOB morons on Call of Duty. :(

here's the big issue:   linux doesn't support directx.   yet.

if they can solve that, they'll have everything they need to be successful.

also, you could just dual boot with Steam OS, that's what i plan on doing

you can also use a cheaper pc/steam machine (there will be multiple models made by multiple manufacturers) to stream games from your gaming rig to the living room

they're really just trying to shove Windows out of the picture, and they might just take a chunk out of playstation and xbox when they do it

they also have their own controller that uses trackpads instead of joysticks
