Steve Smith Is Very, Very Average Now

Smitty has plenty of gas in his tank. He needs to play at least another season and we shore up the offensive line in the draft. My vote if your bringing up our past Pro Bowlers is at LT next year. Move Jordan to LG and get a new motor on the end. We arent getting the holes for these RB's. It would prolong Jordans career.  Watch and see, Smitty still gets doubled.

Sorry, but you don't see Steve running past people like he used to, and he's been struggling with catches that hit him in the fuging numbers. Which is exactly why Cam needs another target, as much of us hate to admit it, but Steve is not the Steve of yesteryear and he's declining fast. Maybe I'm wrong, but we are almost past mid-season and he has not shown me what he used to be capable of.

We need to find his replacement during the off-season top priority.

We've only had four years to find him a solid #2 to play with. I'm sure we'll get right on this.

He's still a workhorse, still putting his body on the line and making big time blocks, etc but I do agree the days of Steve with that cut away speed who would burst away from his defender may be a thing of the past.

This was the OP submitted while losing after a disappointing drop by Smitty during the game.... Textbook reactionary thread..... Followed by furious backpedaling.... He actually said Smitty has dropped more through the last nine games than any three year stretch COMBINED. Just calling it what it is. It's OK.... People overreact. Just admit it.

Go look up his stats...  I'll guarantee he has more drops this season than he ever has in any one season before.

I'm just stating the obvious.  Why come in to this thread and not discuss the issue at hand, but rather attack the person that brought it up? Taking it personal?  I didn't backpedal...  I just expounded on what the initial post said in my subsequent posts.  It was reactionary in regards to his performance throughout the season, the multiple drops he had in key situations early on in the game is just what allowed me a talking point to discuss it.

There are a lot of delusional fans in this thread.  It's very obvious that Smitty is average now.  However, cutting him would be STUPID.  I don't think anybody in their right mind would think this team is better without Steve Smith this season and next.  But he is not a game breaker anymore.  He can't be the #1 option next season.
