The Rockets have no trade involving Asik in the works, with one individual saying a deal is more likely in months than in days.

Asik declined comment, referring questions to his agent, Andy Miller. Miller also would not comment on any trade request.

“I would say the situation is very frustrating right now and we're trying to work through it,” Miller said. “For Omer, the objective has always been to continue to develop and grow as a player. That's why we came to Houston in the first place. If that objective can't be met, if we can't get the right platform to grow and contribute as a player, it's certainly frustrating.”

Just for the sake of conversation...

What would you guys say about making a possible deal with Houston for Asik.

Charlotte Receives: Omer Asik, Greg Smith

Houston Receives: Ben Gordon and his 13 million dollar expiring contract

Note: Smith has to be added in to make the deal work money wise, but he is on an non-guaranteed contract; so he could be waived after the deal went through.

Charlotte Line-Up

PG: Kemba Walker, Ramon Sessions, Jannero Pargo

SG: Gerald Henderson, Jeff Taylor

SF: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Jeff Adrien, James Southerland

PF: Al Jefferson, Cody Zeller, Josh McRoberts, Anthony Tolliver

C: Omer Asik, Bismack Biyombo, Brendan Haywood

Positives: Charlotte would have on the better front courts in the NBA and with Tolliver on a one year deal and Adrien and Haywood with only one year left on their contracts, Asik will allow us to focus on on the point guard, shooting guard, and small forward position in the draft.

Negatives: Getting rid of Gordon's 13 million dollar contract would most likely mean that we will have to bargain bin shop in free agency instead of going after a higher profile type of player.

All thoughts are welcome, this topic was brought up just for discussion purposes.

The problem is he has a poison pill contract.  It goes up to like 15 mill next season.  That's probably why he hasn't been traded already.   He had a good year but taking on a guy that's going to go up to $15m based on one breakout year is a bit of a gamble.  I'm not sure he's even worth half of that.  Do we really gain much over Biz here for the money?  I won't deny Asik is a stout defender, but so is Biz, and he's younger and cheaper, and Asik is only marginally more of a scorer than Biz.   I'm not sure this would be a smart way of using Ben Gordon's expiring.   This team needs scoring more than it needs defense also.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
