Sunday Gameday Thread (All Games)

I hope this is ok mods. There are alot of games today that have implications on the Panthers. The Panthers can avoid quite the log jam for the those two wild card spots with a win tomorrow night.

Baltimore vs Chicago: we need Baltimore to win. Chicago is 5-4 and fighting for one of those 2 wild card spots. Go Ravens! (I hate Flacco so much)

Washington vs Philidelphia: ill be rooting for Washington. Washington is 3-6 and Philly is 5-5. It may take a 10-6 record to get into the playoffs this year. So the more teams with 6 losses after this week the better.

Detroit vs Pittsburgh: when its NFC vs AFC you always root for AFC. With Cutler and Rodgers out, Detroit looks to be the favorite to win the North. However, you never know how it will play out and Detroit may end up battling it out with us for a wild card spot. Go Pittsburgh!

Arizona vs Jacksonville: Dont look now but, with a win the Cardinals would be 6-4 and have the tie breaker over us. The Cardinals still have games against the Seahawks, Niners and Colts remaining. They play the Niners and Colts at home and IMO there a pretty good home team. I'm hoping Jacksonville is on some sort of high from last week if that's possible and beat a traveling Cardinals team. Go Jags! With a win today Jacksonville would put themselves in good position to play Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Green Bay vs New York: got to kick GB while they are down. Green Bay, like Chicago is 5-4 and fighting for a wild card spot right now. Carolina has the tie breaker over the Giants. Giants already have 6 losses so they aren't as big of a threat. Go Giants!

Niners vs Saints: What do you guys think? If the Niners win and Panthers lose tomorrow, the Niners go back to the fifth spot. It's likely Arizona beats Jacksonville today and would be at 6-4. Carolina could be on the outside looking in on Tuesday morning with a loss. I think a split with the Saints is realistic. The Saints still travel to Seattle. I know alot of you guys want to win the division, I'm just thinkin in terms of having a back up plan (wild card). Anyway let me know what you think about this one! I expect alot of fug the saints replies.

If NO loses and we win, does that put us in 1st place due to our having beaten SF?

I believe NO would still technically be in first due to having a better conference record than us. Both there losses have come to AFC teams (Jets, Pats). We have 2 losses to NFC teams (Cards, Seahawks).

Yep.

But just to repeat, record against common opponents is the tiebreaker considered before conference record. If we win and Saints lose, that record would be tied at 2-2 apiece, with the Saints having a chance to go up by beating the Seahawks while we have a chance to go up by beating the Jets. We'd also have to beat the Dolphins, Saints would have to beat the Rams.

    • I think the book has been fairly written on Darnold, and by and large stays true. He can be rattled by pressure, and will lose his composure. If a team can get to him and have something go wrong in the plan, the mistakes and errors will pile up. Rams have a better offense, Seahawks sport a better defense. Should be a good 1.
    • Not a defense of him...an understanding of the problem. (something you seem to be lacking right now) 🙄 Bryce in a Canales offense is not an example of a stylistic mismatch, but I can give you one if that helps. When he was playing for the Panthers, Cam Newton sat under OC's running Coryell type offenses. Newton had a big arm and was a strong runner. He fit into that sort of attack very well. Then he goes to New England, where at the time they were running an Earhardt-Perkins system (similar to WCO In a lot of what they do but very different terminology). The Patriot offenses back then were heavily based on timing and rhythm style passing, not something that Newton was especially well suited for. So he washed out at New England, not because he had poor ability (his abilities had been on display here on a regular basis) but because he didn't fit what they wanted to do with their offense. I always go back to Jeff Garcia as one of the prime examples of this issue. Garcia in a WCO looked like a world beater. Put him in any other scheme though...yikes!  So again, Young's issues here have nothing to do with any failure to mesh with Canales. Hell, is say Canales has actually done pretty well at adapting his system to who he has rather than trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Again, it doesn't take an elite level of football knowledge to get this. It's pretty basic. But if you're not even capable of understanding what the real problem is, how are you going to know you to find the right solution? 🤔
