..Deadspin article tells him to shush when it comes to Cameron....

"A season-saver? "Carolina came into its game against the Saints with a 10-4 record. "He needed that?" Newton has passed for over 3,000 yards this year, run for another 500, and has scored 28 total touchdowns.

This is the kind of crap that Cam Newton will likely always have to deal with. Writers like King no longer have Michael Vick to beat over the head with their maxims about how the quarterback position is meant to played, and Newton—a supremely talented athlete who doesn't fit nicely into any kind of mold—is their next logical target.

Guess the tweet doesnt show...

Peter King will never let it go, and he probably doesn't realize he has it..."it" being a disdain for Cam Newton and players like him.

Here is how King started his weekly MMQB:

Time was drawing short for Cam Newton to justify why he’d been the first pick in the 2011 draft, and why the Carolina Panthers made him the franchise cornerstone 32 months ago....

Good for Newton, who has morphed from a quarterback too reliant on his running ability to a good all-around quarterback who can make the biggest plays when it counts the most

So many things wrong with this I don't even know where to begin.  Really PK, Cam didn't justify the first pick status after breaking damn near EVERY record for a rookie QB?!

The responses to King's tweet after the touchdown are priceless:

A huge drive for Newton, a season-saver. Good for him. He needed that.

"so I guess you don't like Cam Newton?"

"LMAO''

"salty AF"

"A season saver for a 11 win team? Oh ok #YouHateCam"

And the great Julius Hodge "#shaddup You r-word. #ridiculous"

This is part of the problem with sports journalism; articles about reporters. You wonder why personalities like Peter King are so omnipresent? Because their reporting gets as much attention as what they report.

There's too damn much opinion in sports journalism, which logically leads to differences in opinions, which leads to poo-flinging articles between reporters, which leads to people paying attention to reporters, which leads to reporters not being reporters anymore, and becoming "personalities," amongst which Peter King is one of the most well-known influential.

You want to defang these idiots? Stop engaging them. You don't leave flaming comments at the politics beat reporter at the Boston Globe for his opinions on Filibuster reform. So stop retweeting him, stop writing articles about him, stop flaming him in the comments section. He's just a sports fan with an opinion like everyone else at this point, and you should regard him as such and give him as much attention as you give a message board troll everywhere else.

dear peter "I see black qb, he must only run" king:

I don't expect you to watch all our games, or even most of them.

but it'd be nice if you at least watched highlights before you commented.  or even looked at a stats sheet.  I know it's hard because Cam's huge grin on every page is just so distracting and alluring, but try to look away for a mere moment to gaze at his ridiculous stats: 11,000 passing yards in under 3 seasons, 60% completion percentage, 62 passing TDs, and 3 game winning TD passes in the last 2 minutes of games this season to seal victories against good teams.  Yes he uses his legs, but he uses them to keep defenses off balance.  He can and does beat them with his arm.

Cam didn't need that drive... The team did.  And that's where you are most disrespectful to him, because you pretend he plays the game alone while ignoring everything about his actual play and the people around him.

It's okay to admit you're wrong, it's even okay to admit maybe you got caught up in a lot of the racial bias thrown around in the draft.  Hell, to do so might even make you relevant again.  A lot of us around here realize now we bought in too much to people were thought were legitimate, unbias observers - like yourself - and didn't pay enough attention to what Cam could do on the field and what the people knew him best had to say.

It'll be funny when some day you declare that you were right all along and Cam has finally arrived.  I don't know when that'll be, frankly, because you seem like the kind of asshole that, if Cam ever wins a superbowl, will proclaim how momentous it was for him - and the next game question if he can ever do it

again.

(and yes I know he's not going to read this, I don't give a poo)

Dude, you know what the best part is about a qb you initially doubted on a team that's finally winning? You can just manufacture some bullshit about him "proving himself worthy" in some way you thought he wasn't paying off on so that it actually looks like you were still right all along, which would suggest that you actually know what you're talking about! That's like when people rag on cam being immature in his first two years, instead of understanding the process of learning the game and the external variables like defense that have nothing to do with cam, we can say he matured just now, and use some anecdote we found that probably really meant little to back our point, thus confirming everything we initially said about newton as truth!
