Browns To Fire Chudzinski [edit: he got dumped]

One Panther said Chud would be a good head coach as long as he stayed in the booth---all week.

There have been successful head coaches with a lack of personal "connectivity," but they've had other skills in abundance.  Of all organizations, the Browns should have known what they were getting--there are people there who were around for his first two tours of duty.  Puzzled me then, and the only surprise is that they chose to bite the bullet and admit the screwup now.

Can we get Norv Turner now, or do we have to wait?

I don't mind that idea, and while Chud is linked to Turner pretty hard, the end result is that neither will be a head coach next year, and I don't know if either is dying to be a position coach under the other.  So, here's what would allow us to do what McDermott did for the Pats two years ago - Turner would have to be fired, or let out of contract immediately.

On the other end, Rivera would have to be willing to deal with some distraction with that; he'd have to talk Turner into taking a position that essentially has no real title other than potentially Assistant HC, and let him take on some big-picture stuff while Shula runs the O.  Turner could be a sounding board, a problem solver, and so on.  But we don't really have an opening unless we just invent that type role.

I like it, as much for the idea of getting a former head coach to come in on the bye and help out, which is only really possible if he sticks around for next year.   But it's a somewhat radical idea.

it's odd they are doing it but it makes me think they think they can get a big splash hire.

the somewhat disturbing thing is that the name floated there and Houston are Josh McDaniels or Bill O'Brien.  Really?  That's your big splash?  Come on.  The Browns, who I could care less if they do well or sink into the lake, have tried the former Pats thing enough, they should know better.  That's more of a plop than a splash.

Factory of Sadness.

The Browns will probably just promote Turner.

the rumors point to the former Pats OCs.  I don't know why they think they'll be any more happy with either of them, though.  They seem to be playing the role of being sore about Chip Kelly, and those guys aren't Chip Kelly anymore than Chud is.

I guess we'll see, but Turner already likely exerted a great deal of control over the team and I think they are going to be going after someone new.

I just read something from Joe Thomas where he was upset about the team having to change directions yet again and complaining about the number of coaches within a time frame. That would let them keep a general direction while getting rid of the person that kind of seems to be a cancer type influence. Just a thought, not that I expect that to happen.
