Officially Concerned about the Offense

Panthers are somewhat an anomaly here in the post season.................I don't see another team that has such a wide spread in the talent and execution comparison between their defense and offense than the Panthers.

 

Our issues with the Offense are such that without our defense we are probably not in the playoffs at all...............but............

 

Despite the lack of execution in our offense they have come up big in late game heroics.................and that is an anomaly.

 

Most of the great late game drives are from offenses that are loading with talent.

 

Cam is the X factor in that anomaly from my prospective but you have to wonder how many times can we dig into that well and come up successful?

I am just getting a chance to read this entire thread.

 

There are a few Cam haters in here, far too many Cam huggers, and a lot of level headed folks talking about a real issue, the decline of the Panthers Offense.

 

There are some major issues that have been here all year.  Right side of the line, ineffective RB's, lack of talent at the WR, bad playcalling, and less than stellar Quarterback play.

 

Hopefully the O can get their heads out of their asses and help out this D.

 

I promise you this, we will not make it out of the divisional round with the O playing this poorly.

I think the offense has stagnated for a couple of reasons:

1. Play calling has been consistent with earlier in the season when we were scoring 30 pts a game. However, teams have adjusted how they are playing us. It is time for Shula to now adjust.

2. WR's struggle to win their battles because our corps is ok, but not elite

3. OL has failed to establish a dominant run game, which is a young QB's best friend.

4. Cam has been a little irratic the past few weeks throwing high again. Some us due to garbage around his feet and some are due to not focusing on the fundamentals. I think this is something that he will struggle with for a while. He was a little raw in this aspect coming out and it us just not engrained in his psyche yet...but it will.

Everyone needs to elevate their game on the offense. If they do, adding a more consistent offense to this defense will result in a SB title.

I agree with everything but the WRs. This unit is terrible if you take smith away. The seer lack of motivation from LaFell is a sign we should move on and he is our best WR besides Smith. Every week I see a QB Huck up a pass and a WR make a play for his team. If Cam is not perfect on his passes its int or incomplete. We don't need AJ Green just a guy to make a play.

I don't think the WR's are terrible.  They are just not dynamic.

This IMO is the biggest one of all. Sure there are other things but this is the root of it all.

The Arizona game was an example of Shula not being able to make in game adjustments. This season has been an example of him not being able to make week to week adjustments.

It's almost the exact same plays being called every game but at different times. I doubt the playbook is very big. It's pretty bad when most huddlers know which play they're running before they run it.

The first quarter yes. Then Arizona defense adjusted and was constantly getting pressure on Cam if I'm not mistaken. I re fuse to re watch this game because it was so frustrating to watch. But I remember in the Gameday thread and after how we were all calling for Shula's head because of the lack of screens and quick passes.

Didn't really see this until I re watched the game. LaFell's effort on this play to atleast try and break up an interception was pathetic.

 

I pointed this out during the game (on that deep Lafell sideline throw/attempt), and some here wanted to have a heart attack cause it wasn't automatically blaming Cam. Use your eyes Huddlers. It was simply a poor effort by Lafell (and he mistimed his jump because of it).

yes we can, but to literally dissect every throw this guy makes is just dumb. some people would rather talk about his misses then his great passes or pass he makes, so why is that? again every QB misses, but when Cam does, the same people come on here and harp about him missing throws.

 

watching Olsen attempt to get any type of YAC is eye gauge worthy.

 

These are probably the same people, who feel "Jay Cutler is a more refined passer than Cam", or deserves a big contract more than Newton does. Do they watch football, notice what's happening in front of them? Shrugs.

I agree. They've been awful this year in their play making, come back, box out, and jump ball scenarios. I'm sure close to worst in the league.
