just my thought which i stated in an earlier thread but more relevant here....im not a huge shula supporter but to all you blatant shula haters who in your opinion could have done a better job with our WR corps  (smitty gets a pass) and our swinging door right side of the OLine....in yalls opinion who could of posted a better record than 12-4 and installed a new offense in one year? im  just curious because i believe its safe to say we've been successful...i mean yeah i hate the wild cat and there are some wtf moments but i feel thats the same for every team, say what you want but he has done the best job possible with what hes been given

Funny that people discount TOP and scoring efficiency. Those are directly related to the improvements on defense. Not the only factor, but is a big factor nonetheless.

They have been losing TOP as of late.

Exactly.

Seeing at the jump our Defense made once we solidified the DT position I don't see how people keep disregarding how horrible our OL is.  When they do hold up, we only have 2 people who can consistently get open.  1 person who can stretch defenses but only if he gets a clean release.  1 guy who goes from catching everything to dropping everything.  It's crazy what people are expecting.

yes...i mean we draft some weapons and solidify our oline and we're still lethargic then yeah he should be canned but anyone who says he didnt do a good job with what we have simply doesnt know football...people really dont understand how important an oline...i feel if we had a solid right side we would have put up even better numbers than we did this year

Hilarious.

People say we shouldn't get rid of Shula because we are 12-4 but crucify the Oline and Lafell etc...

So the logic there is we are 12-4 therefore we don't need better Oline or WR production?

Shula is a weakness that this team needs to address, period.(as is wr and oline)

LOL..

What are you saying?  People are saying because the Oline sucks and the WR production sucks is the reason Shula is doing an a good job.  We are scoring more points per game than last year.  That's with Chudzinski last year. Who knows how much better we could be with an adequate Oline and WR's who don't drop balls or just overall suck.  Factor in the self admitted poor play by Cam recently, what is Shula's weakness?

To recap:

More points per game than last year.

Our Oline sucks.

Or WR's suck.

We made no significant improvement in those positions over the last 4 drafts.

if you think shula hasnt had to get creative and think outside the box to get production you simply havent watched or dont understand more than basic football concepts....we cant pound the rock like we used to because our oline isnt good enough we cant sling the ball around becasue 1. our recievers are very inconsistent and dont really present a downfield threat and 2. our oline doesnt really provide enough time for cam to sling it down field...so what we are left with is a hybrid mix of both that attempts to blend our strengths of both....thats why we throw alot of screens and short routes to greg or lafell coming across the formation....its also why we/ve been labeled as a slow offense because we are using what we have to get the job done, we simply dont have the weapons or protection to sling it around like the packers or broncos and we dont have the oline to pound it like we did in 08, either way we have an efficient offense that will be superb with an playmaker WR and a few more hogmollies

The Panthers offense has gotten worse under Mike Shula, but we have won 12 games. In a situation like this, it's useful to consider Shula's history, both in the NFL and at Alabama. Now, if everyone he's worked for thinks he's a terrible offensive coach, and if our offense has regressed under him, then it's reasonable to conclude that we may have a weakness at OC. Also though, keep in mind that he is very inexpensive as offensive coordinators go.

Carolina has had the least number of drive in the NFL.....

That greatly explains the offensive ranking

They actually good in plays, yards, pts per drive

THIS. It's out style of offense that has us so low in the rankings. Just like Phillys D was ranked so low because they were just on the field so much more because the offense scored quick. We take long drives but almost always come away with points. But zod wouldn't know that cause he's been driving the hate Shula bandwagon since day one

    • What a great position to be in.  We have so many WRs that can make the team.  What I love about this group is that several of them are physical beasts.  6'3" or more.   You have big WRs in the line up. Somewhere is going to be a mismatch.  I am interested in seeing what Meiga brings to the room.  A huge, long shot but like Coker he is big and just never really caught on in college.  You never know.  Maybe he shows enough to make the PS.  I am also interested in seeing what Horn does.  Hopefully, he finds some footing with this team.  I hope that with a year under his belt he steps up and really puts DM in a posiion to make a hard choice.   Moore has never really been one of my favorites but he seems to have Canales in his back pocket.
    • And honestly, for me (while keeping it all in perspective within this context of course), a fun Sunday is when the Panthers win, a not-so-fun Sunday is when they lose.
    • Yeah, I thought the whole purpose was based upon reputation, not betting. Pie actually serves a purpose, and now it seems like it's being watered down to meaningless. Some other form of "rep" for being able to guess and bet if that's your cup of tea alongside our traditional pie would have been better in my opinion.
