Kaep Contract If He Win Today

Word is if he does, the 49ers willing to kick out top 5 ALL-TIME money for a new contract

And we know Cam contract is next year

This is speculation at this point, but definitely something to watch out as QB that's not worth it seem to be breaking the bank these days. We all know Cam > Kaep, so I'll advise Rivera and Gettle to realize what they have and focus on maximizing the amount of talent around Cam on the offensive side of the ball cause Kaep is NOT getting it done alone

This is a very serious discussion that Gettleman needs to have with Cam and the team. I'm as big of a Cam fan as anyone, but I'm hard pressed to see ANY QB worth 25% of the team's cap.

I know franchise QBs don't grow on trees. But neither do complete teams. And giving up that much money kills the opportunity of building a team.

Super Bowl wins are like a quarterly report for a company. Short term trumps long unfortunately.

Many teams now have to be more savvy than ever as far as salary is considered.

However SF could take the contrarian approach and NOT pay Kap and let him go since they will have a SB AND a new stadium. Reboot and go from there.

If they pay Colin Kaepernick top five quarterback money, they'll come to regret it.

The recent Jay Cutler extension by the Bears isn't going to help.

Weren't you one of those advocating trade talks and scenarios for Cam just three months ago?

The 2011 class are all due extensions, for all we know Gett may have already started negotiating with Cam's agent.

Will be very interesting to see the contacts Cam and Kaep command. Cam has been the better player but Colin has playoff success on his side.

As I said then, if Gettleman didn't think that Cam was the answer, the he should trade him. This was after the Gettleman interview in, what, July of last year? August? And after Gettleman said that it was time to win.

Now, we've established that Gettleman thinks Cam is the answer (not my words, these are all based on Gettleman's pressers), we know that that isn't the issue anymore.

If you'd like to spin it to fit your narrative, feel free.

There is nothing to spin. It was pure lunacy then, and it's still pure lunacy now.

Cam is our franchise player. Build around him, and let's win.

    • And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something.  Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt.  Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
    • The most telling sign, IMO, of a team on the upward swing is who we lost in the off-season. Who left that even saw the field? Woods, Clowney, Sanders, & Hekker. OK...no big deal. Clowney is the only 1 that I raised an eyebrow over and I get that it was a money decision. No need to pay him over $7M to take snaps from our draft picks when he was just OK last year.
