Guys, chill down. Before we know it, Detroit, Cleveland, and NYK will all be on top of us.

We'll hold three picks in the 1st round: no.8, Detroit, and Portland.

Prospects that I am considering with Charlotte's pick: Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh, and Zach LaVine.
Prospects that I am considering with Detroit's pick: James Young, Gary Harris, Tyler Ennis, and Glenn Robinson.
Prospects that I am considering with Portland's pick: Kyle Anderson, Semaj Christon, P.J. Hairston, Mitch McGary, and Isaiah Austin.

Right now Detroit and NY are 1/2 game out of 8th place with a game in hand. One of those teams will likely get the 8th playoff spot over Charlotte.

The Bobcats have this upcoming stretch of games.

@Denver, @LAL, @Phoenix, @GS, Vs. SA, Vs. Dallas, @Brooklyn, @ Detroit, Vs. Detroit.  Outside of Home Against Detroit and at LAL, all of those might just be losses.

We caught a bad break (well us in the tank crowd) @ Denver, no way we would have beat them if Lawson and Robinson had been healthy, if we make the playoffs then MJ should fire himself.

  • 2 weeks later...

The race for 8 heats up!  Bobcats currently leading the way, but the Pistons have been coming on strong since firing their coach and the Cavs are joining the race after winning 4 straight (there has even been an Anthony Bennett signing).  And then theres the Knicks, the most talented and least understood

8    Charlotte    23-30
9    Detroit        22-30
10  New York   20-32
11  Cleveland   20-33

So, our pick goes to Chicago if we make the playoffs (top 12 protected) but we essentially keep it if we dont. Detroit keeps their pick if it is in the top 8 (Detroit has the 10th worst record now, so they would have to drop below the Knicks and Cavs to have a shot at keeping it).

Meanwhile, the Knicks have no incentive to tank as they do not own their 1st round pick (traded to the Nuggets in the Melo trade), and the Cavs seem intent on winning after trading for Deng.

Imagine a world where we end up in the lottery with our pick and get Detroit's lottery pick...and both end up being in the top 3. I don't think I could take it.

Right now, the Detroit (Charlotte) hold the 10th pick in the draft. If somehow that pick lands in the top 5, who get the pick? Charlotte or Detroit (Top 8 protected).

Detroit pick is top 8 protected, so if they move up into the top three it goes back to them.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
