In fact, when Cam's #s are high, we ttend to lose.

THis season will be the difference. I think Cam will get a new WR or 2, and a better OL. The rest of NFL does not want that. Russell WIson is a good game manager because he has a stud run game and the #1 defense supporting him. Imagine Cam with the same thing? We were almost as good as the Seahawks with "scrub" DBs, a makeshift OL, and our best WR was a 34-year old angry smurf who has lost a step or two.

I don't know why I found that so funny when you said angry smurf lol.

Johnny Elway: 60% Cmp, 10993 Yd, 7.2 Ypa, 78 Td, 35 Int

Do I apologize to anyone for any criticisms of Cam last year and even at the beginning of this season?  NO.  He fixed what I was complaining about, for the most part.  I think people who were singing his praises before he changed should feel stupid.  I guess I coached too long to celebrate potential with undying worship.

ill believe teammates like deangelo williams and greg olsen when they say the maturity thing has been overblown. and that he has been a leader since day 1 not a high school football coach who isn't there in team meetings and on the sidelines.

Cam has protected the football better and played within the team, that is why we won so much this past year. he led 4th quarter drives many times in the first 2 seasons. and guess what our record would have been if the defense held like it held this past year? instead of 6-10 you are looking at 8-8. instead of 7-9 you are looking at 10-6. steady if not spectacular improvement from the worst team in the league 4 years ago. And that has been mostly Cam's doing (with Keek some last year).

i think he is saying "the right things" in the media. but behind closed doors i think he is still the same guy, because i'll believe what his teammates say. could he have stopped sulking on the sidelines? sure, but that didn't affect his play on the field.

people were singing his praises because for the first time in so long we have a qb of the present and future who arguably has the highest ceiling in the league. this was his 3rd year in the league. we are lucky as hell he is a panther. None of those young qbs have had to shoulder their teams as much as Cam, arguably Luck. I think you were really overblowing all of this months back when you said he wasn't a franchise qb. I watched all the games, he was a franchise qb after day 1. not just because of the stats, but how he elevated people's games around him.

you can look at it as a "change" to make yourself feel better but you were flat out wrong about him. And most posters here know that.

Do you believe everything players say in the media?  What are they supposed to say?  If not what you want to hear, is it wrong?  Did they give Cam a "C"?  not until this year.  Did Cam admit that it looked bad?  Yes.  You can believe him.   He admitted to making changes to become more of a leader and complete player--why did he need to do that?  Because he was great and anyone who questions his lack of success is a blasmphemer or was it that he realized that his teammates would give him the "C" when he met their expectations as a leader.

Having a difference of opinion does not make anyone wrong.  You apparently were satisfied going 7-9 and losing games late.  I wanted more from a QB with tons of upside.  They judge QBs by their wins and losses-super bowl rings.  WHen you are 2-14 in games where you had a lead in the 4th quarter and the QB is sitting on the sidleline with a towel on his head, do not expect Canton to be taking Photos for future use.

Never recalled anyone questioning his "arm strength (though yes, that would classify as blatantly over critical)"? Lol

However, I do agree with your first sentence, sentiments.

It seems like that's all I heard through the summer and the preseason. But then again I am in a different part of the country.

Great thread!

I am so glad Cam Newton is our QB. Looking at those stats, it is so amazing to me he is right on par with the great Peyton Manning. The best is yet to come. Give Killa some offensive weapons, and look out! Gotta get Cam his Marvin Harrison. The bigger picture is with this Def already being stout, as soon as we get the Off fixed we should finally be able to have some consistent winning seasons. Were going to win a SB with Cam as our QB!

im going to break this down, each one:

Do you believe everything players say in the media?

No, but when i hear Greg Olsen go out of his way and say this at 5:09:

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-am/0ap2000000308174/Olsen-This-week-s-about-health-fine-tuning

I tend to believe the guy whose in the building with him everyday. We've heard Jon Beason's opinion on him last year about him having to be more "professional" in his interviews. Outside perception. this isn't some conspiracy.

If not what I want to hear is it wrong?

No, there are some things Cam says and does that I don't agree with or kind of shake my head.

Did they give Cam "C" not until this year?

we all know who was entrenched in the captaincy the past two years. it was his FIRST TWO YEARS. Who did the Colts have offensively after they blew that team up besides reggie wayne, Who did the redskins have offensively? RW? cause i know you will talk about the young QBs. we didn't blow this team up after having the worst record in the league

Did Cam believe it looked bad?

Yes, once again outside perception he had to learn to be a "professional" and like Cam says, "i wear my emotions on my sleeve, it's just the kind of guy i am". My point this entire time is that it has been overblown. He has always possessed those qualities but he's a young guy figuring his way out. It was pretty obvious the whole time.

He admitted to making changes to become more of a leader and complete player--why did he need to do that?  Because he was great and anyone who questions his lack of success is a blasmphemer or was it that he realized that his teammates would give him the "C" when he met their expectations as a leader.

this is just a big duh. this is progress you want your young qb to make. the point was he has ALWAYS possessed these QUALITIES it was about fine tuning them at the next level. But you could see it from the beginning if you were paying attention and not focusing on the Superman poses.

Having a difference of opinion does not make anyone wrong.

well apparently it makes them stupid in your mind, which is the reason i'm replying to this gibberish because normally i would just ignore your comments on Cam because we've done this before.

And once again ill thank Teeray for that informative post about how the DEFENSE blew games and if you know simple math you would realize our record would be pretty different because Cam has been making late 4th quarter plays his entire career. He WAS the best player on a terrible team. it wasnt like he had the opportunity to go back in and win the game when he was "sitting on the sideline with a towel on his head."

Bottom line is you called people stupid for differing from your opinion. I'm sorry I believe what I saw and what I heard from his teammates and didn't view it the way you saw it.

I saw a guy that wanted to win in a bad way, who showed that every snap on the field but we were a terrible team and he put the team on his back and hasn't looked back.  Has he become more "professional"? sure, but to me he's always been the same guy, hes just continued to progress year in and year out. Something you love to see out of a 3rd year qb.

most people were patient because they could see those qualities develop. you were impatient and wanted to get rid of him. point being time has shown you are the stupid one.

God damn again with the towel BS? Go find another QB to root for if that bothered you so much, Jesus.
