5000th post (fug the superbowl)

So, I post a fair amount...but not as much as many of you. 5000 posts is a milestone. So this is a milestone post.

I have been in this forum a long time. Do not remember when I first signed up. Nance was the one who recommended this place to me from another forum. A lot has changed since then. There were a lot more women who posted regularly in the football forum and were quality posters. I understand why they left. I miss them.

I have been able to attend all the regular season games and a playoff game 2 times. The first was 2008. The 2nd time was this year.

2008 was the beginning of the end. I believe this year is the beginning.

We have a young talented team...with a few great vets showing the way.

It is unbelievably awesome to have the NFL COACH OF THE YEAR and NFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR. Even more incredible knowing where Rivera was early in the year and Luke is only a 2nd year player. That is pretty impressive. (Also impressive is what quality people they seem to be.)

I believe in Gettleman. We are so lucky to have him. Hard to believe it took him so long to get a GM job. Funny how he and Rivera have that in common. Although the Boston Boss seemed ready from day 1. Rivera had to grow into the job. Props to Rivera...he seems like someone who will always learn and grow (refreshing), and props to JR and Gettlman for giving him the chance.

Also I love the way Gettleman came in. He did not fire/replace anyone. Who does that these days in the NFL? (Or anywhere) Wanted to give everyone a chance. He is unique in that regard. Not an ego....got to have “my guy.” He is looking pretty smart. He said his job is to make everyone better....check. I think we will have a long love relationship with The Grinder.

Rivera is only going to get better as a coach. Gettleman will get us quality players. The Panthers have a great foundation. The next few years are going to be very good.

It is a great time to be a Panther fan, but is has been great from the beginning. Every team will have ups and downs but true fans are there through it all. I am a fan. I was a fan from the beginning. I am hooked.

One thing I want. Jerry Richardson to win a Super Bowl. He gave us this team. He deserves it. I believe Rivera and Gettleman will get it for him sooner rather than later.

This team will do great things soon. I love this team....I always will.

This team has a chance to be a dynasty or dynasty esque with the right FA moves. We probably have the best young-veteran core in the game.

Luke, Star, CJ, Hardy, Cam, Kalil, Tolbert, Olsen

Get Cam a few more weapons and I think we stomp about anybody. Keep in mind this team ridiculously overachieved, especially on offense. Cam being awesome, Smith being clutch, and Rivera converting 4th down is what kept our weak offense on the field. Imagine when we get another talented receiver and beef the o-line. I don't see how you stop Smith in the slot, plus Olsen, Ted Ginn, another pass catcher, plus our over priced yet talented backfield. Once our offensive line can generate push we will be able to dictate the game by pounding the football instead of just taking advantage of the mismatch Cam brings as a runner.

The offensive line will naturally be better next season anyway in my opinion.  Don't forget we had 10,000 linemean on IR this year.

i miss blindsite and fireball :(

blindsite used to do those awesome writeups and fireball knew more about football than 95% of these forums

in short, we used to have more posters like Mr Scott and fewer posters like TCF or SMF

I agree except Fireball knew more about football than 99.5% of all.....at least.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
