MKG and Biz

I keep seeing people on here calling both MKG and Biz bust's. That's completely absurd, MKG and biz are both elite defensive prospects that are still very young. Biz is only 21, while MKG is 20. 

 

 

Biz has shown improvement in each season at getting better at being a defensive stopper. If you use advanced metrics, he's already a borderline elite shot blocker and rim protector and he's only 21 years old. He's still only played basketball for 5 years now and is starting to understand how to play the game on the offensive end of the floor. 

 

 

MKG meanwhile is already one of the best team defenders in the league and is way above average at guarding the perimeter. Combined with his excellent transitional skills, rebounding ability and his increasingly better drive ability. You've got one of the best glue guys in the NBA. 

 

I could get into why the team will never work as it's being built but a lot of people on here might not like it. I'll just mention that neither Hendo or Kemba fit the moves that the team has made over the last two draft's and off seasons.

We are a very good scorer/shooter away from being a really good team. 

 

Look at Ibaka.  He was very raw coming out, and similar to Biz, now he has one of the best 2 point jump shots in the league.

my only issue with MKG is, he is very erratic on offense.  watching him drive the lane its like he is unsure what he is going to do.  His jump shot is getting better but its still fugly.  I'm sure MKG can become a fine player but theres a chance that its going to take many more years and there are players charlotte can acquire now via trade that they dont have to put as much work into.

This is exactly the kind of player you want with the 7th overall pick in the draft. A backup C who is a one-dimensional role player.

Because there were so many great picks available after him? That was a weak draft & he was an extremely raw, young, elite prospect.

FYI, Biz is a PF not a C.

I don't know why people act as if Biz wasn't/isn't a long-term project.

I didn't want a long-term project at 7, let alone a long-term project at 2 the next year. Mortgaging seasons for long-term projects makes you a bad franchise. No longer can you build through the draft as easily as in the past, because players coming into the draft are less experienced and younger now. Certainly less fundamentally strong compared to the 90s, which was lower than the 80s. Kobe, T-Mac, LeBron and KG were the exceptions. You're a lot more likely to end up with a Korleone Young.

News Flash for you. Charlotte's a small market NBA team, they have to mortgage seasons to become good. It's the only chance at becoming a playoff team consistently. I don't know about you but getting the 8th seed in the east, isn't what I call a good team. Heck they don't deserve to make the playoffs. 

 

 

It isn't like LA, NY, Miami.... Big time players don't just come to Charlotte, you've got to draft them. It's how the original Hornets got good and stayed good for so long. They drafted extremely well every year, if you don't draft well then you're never going to be a good team. You've got to have a key building block and the Bobcats never have had a key building block. 

 

 

As for the draft, you're taking a long term prospect unless you get a player like James or Melo... Paul George took a while to develop into the player he is now and was a top 10 pick. When Biz was picked, everyone knew he was a 4-5 year project.

He doesn't have confidence on the offensive side, I'm not sure if that's because of the team really trying to rework his shot or what... However because of his elite level defense and team defense, he's the top of prospect you give the time to and see what happens.

If they did a redraft I bet they'd still take Biz.

Who would you rather have that was picked after him? C Thompson, a volume 3-pt shooter who can't drive or play any defense at all? K Leonard, the 6th man of a contender who would struggle mightly here as the go to guy?

Biz has improved drastically, & will continue to do so.
