If Smitty is "evaluated" and not on this team next yearn

WOW!!

I'm not dead sold on the idea that Smitty will be cut.

But I do acknowledge it as a real and legitimate possibility.

The only way he stays is to rework his deal where he makes $6m this season and frees the team of the 2015 and 2016 obligations.  Sorta what Gross did.

I do not see us keeping him under his current deal.  He gets a one-year deal for the same amount that he would cost us if we cut him.  Not sure Smitty will take that deal/

Newsflash:  Nobody should speculate about perspective moves on an NFL team board unless you are in direct communication with the GM of the team you are discussing.

Let me repeat this for clarity--if you have an opinion and want to post it here, please have a conversation with Gettlemen first to verify your reasons.  Include a dated selfie with DG to verify that this conversation actually occured.

Simply stated all GM has said is that Cam is our franchise QB and to sign him while putting out a winning team he needs to right size the contracts of all players to do so. So in Smittys case if Smitty will play under that kind of contract he has a good chance of being here.

I think there is difference between offering an opinion, and making statements as if they were already set in stone.

The whole idea of cutting Steve Smith isn't even remotely confirmed. It's based on interpretations some have made from comments at the combine. People have been spinning away on Gettleman, and Rivera's comments for like the past week. But still, it's all speculation.

If anyone here can link me to direct comments made from Gettleman or Rivera that involve the words "Steve Smith", and "cut" in the same sentence, I will be happy to read them. In the mean time, I will await the beginning of free agency, and simply see how it unfolds from here.

It's more than just taking the comments from the GM and the coach.  It's looking at the player as a whole, his production, his salary impact on the cap, our current cap situation, and objectively evaluating that for the first time ever there are actually scenarios that could make sense for Steve to not be on the team.

We come to a message board to discuss those possibilities with other fans.  No one here has more information than the next person.  If that doesn't interest you then by all means, hop out of the thread and we'll see you back when FA starts when the actual plan unfolds.  Your "holier than thou" attitude and comments about how everyone on the Huddle is a moron for stating their opinions are played out.  Bring something new to the table other than putting people down

In regards to the "holier than thou" attitude, you are basically doing the same thing you are accusing me of. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not you personally feel whether he will, or will not be willing to work out something with his contract here. There's no indication either way.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
