Kalil and Stewart Restructure

Panthers center Ryan Kalil did restructure his contract. $4.75M base salary reduced to $855k, remainder converted to signing bonus.

Kalil had a $10.4M cap number. New number is $7.284. Panthers save $3.116M in 2014 cap space.

Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart tweaked his deal, as well. $1.5M base reduced to $785k. Remainder ($715k) was added to his $6.785M option bonus

So Stewart gets $7.5M signing bonus, prorated over 5 years. Renegotiation lowers 2014 cap number by $911,250

I haven't seen this anywhere but it looks like Gettleman has been busy.

Neither of those restructures resulted in the player getting less money.  It is funny how fans think the players giving up money in these situations.

this, a restructure actually benefits the player in every way, there's literally zero downside for them

they get the same money but it's now guaranteed and paid upfront rather than over the course of a season. also increases the dead money hit if they're cut in the future so they have better leverage on future negotiations and a better chance to stick around for the life of the contract

    • I could be waaaaaaay off about Kon. I do fault myself into, to borrow a NFL phrase heavily "RAS" nerd on players, too much. There are PLENTY of athletic freak shows that are playing overseas(or Amazon delivery) cause they never figured out NBA ball. I can easily miss seeing the talent. Plus did he only have 2 dunks on the season??(is that for real??) I didn't watch over a few hours of duke, but not one point did I think "That Kon guy is a top 4 pick in the upcoming draft". IMO I still foresee Ball bringing the ball up, doing his weak isolation game and never even looking for Kon. That's his best trait according to everyone, shooting right? I do not see ball, bridges, miller or even williams making the extra pass to Kon for him to shoot a 3.  Then defense-wise, Im not ready to type the amount of questions I foresee in his ability for guarding NBA SGs or bench SFs for that matter. Not that NBA players care to defend, but still..... I just feel he's a bad fit for the current hornets, trades are taking place tho... Liam to me is a decent comp for Kon and he fell some, but was a 29 overall pick. Still around 13-21 was the good solid range for Liam and I thought the same for Kon. This is just a classic case of I need to see it. It add to this, Kon is like garlic. Ball is like sugar and Miller is like flour. Mix it together and chef Lee is not going to get me to eat that dish..... Honestly I don't know why Im this vocal about Kon. In past years I would be patience and not post and see what the kid has. The other side, insert classic white boy terms here- _____, ______, _______< etc >. Hornets do desperately need them. His crafty back door cuts, his willingness to stay a extra 2 hours to refine lees plays, keep playing with bruised limbs. I heard from many reports he's mentally tough and hornets by all gods need that. God they are such pussys.  I hope Im wrong and if so, I will give Kon his just props.
