Panthers to get new starting DT in 2010?

According to this article, defensive tackle is loaded next draft and if our interior guys get gashed...again, I think we select no fewer than TWO DTs next draft and possibly get a veteran if the Peppers salary is off-loaded. Somehow, some way, I think we get back into the first round to get one of these guys. Lord knows we need some help.

I'm thinking we do something to get back into the late first round picking up a DT and again in rounds 3 or 4. I'm not sure about a QB unless HurFox is ousted. They had rather pick up a backup already in the league than to groom them straight out of college. Jake's getting older, so maybe they'll change their mode of operation.

its too early to tell were we will go with our first pick..plus i see this every year all these so called experts come out and say a certain class is deep..then some injurys happen.players suck.and all of a sudden..its a weak class..lol

plus they have The Golden Calf of Bristol as the #1 senior QB..lol

Loaded at QB too. I'm thinking DT in the 2nd, QB in the 3rd.

:iagree: Not sure if we're load there, but another SLB to eventually replace Diggs wouldn't hurt, either. But, yeah, I would say DT and QB will be our biggest needs and what we should look for in the 2010 draft.

Our interior only really got "gashed" when Lewis or Kemo were on the bench, that having been said I do still think DT is our biggest single need.

True, however, their production faltered down the stretch. One can argue that if they are rotated out more frequently then those two will be just fine. While that may be the case, just okay is not what we need. I said this more than once, while Jenx was an immature prick, he was the glue for the DL...not Peppers. Kris was the one that gave DCs headaches moreso than Peppers and the combination of the two was devistating.

We need a stud in the middle and currently we have two servicable guys. If a player is commanding a double team in the middle, then one of the two ends are going to be one-on-one with a TE or RB. I like those odds. Right now, neither Kemo nor Lewis demands that kind of attention on a consistent basis.

I agree that we sorely miss Jenkins' talent, we have to have someone who can collapse the pocket from the middle AND hold up against the run. We had that in Jenkins, but things didn't work out for a variety of reasons. I really like Kemo, but wouldn't mind seeing a legit, beast DT come in and possibly make one of the nastiest DL's in the league. Hopefully with Lucas' release we'll see better coverage and give the front four more time to do their thing. Having a legit DL coach should also prove beneficial. I think the additions to the D staff will be big this year.

Okay...where is Gerald McCoy on this list? Pretty big oversite on their part. Granger is always injured and he's on this list, but McCoy would've probably been the first DT taken this year and he's nowhere to be found.

Allen Bailey or Marvin Austin foregoing their senior season would make the position even stronger. Suh is a top-three pick. Arhur Jones would look good as a Panther.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
