Is Nick Foles the best of the "New Breed", "Dual Threat" QB'S ?

He thrived in Chip Jelly's Zone Read, run first offense last season.

The Eagles were number 1 in the entire NFL in rushing offense by a large margin.

They averaged a remarkable 5.1 yards per rushing attempt, number 1 in the NFL.

Foles was number 1 in the NFL in passer rating, surpassing even Peyton Manning.

In addition, the Eagles, though they led the NFL in rushing, were also # 9 in the NFL in passing offense.

None of the other "Young Guns", "New Breed", "Dual Threat" QB's came close to putting up those type of numbers, especially the combination of rushing and passing success.

The closest was BOB 3, who paced the Redskins to a 16th finish in NFL passing offense.

One has to wonder what Foles would have accomplished had the Eagles not finished 29th in NFL Total Defense.

After all, the only teams that made the NFC playoffs last year that did not finish in the top 5 in NFL in total defense were the Packers and Eagles.

I think Foles is a good QB who can be a part of a SB winning team but McCoy and the system are also a major reason for his numbers.

I also wouldn't consider him the top "new gun" or whatever.  Also, he's not a dual threat.

They were number one in rushing because of McCoy. Not foles. He had a good season but by no means does that make him the best dual threat qb. Horrible thread

Funny.

The Eagles have had McCoy for 5 years, but they never led the league in rushing with McCoy until last year.

Funny.

The eagles have had Andy Reid for 4 years, Chip Kelly for one year. I think the great seasons from both Mccoy and Foles had more to do with the system of Chip Kelly than it had to do with themselves..

It's not really that funny. Reid ran a west coast dink and dunk while contrary to popular belief, Kelly's offense is run heavy. Not sure what's hard to understand here.

Nick Foles is Matt Cassel 2.0 - a decent quarterback who can thrive in the right system. He's not single-handedly leading his team to wins like the other dual- threat QBs.

You mean the ones with the Top 5 defenses and good running games?

    • It can happen but it’s nothing like the NBA. One player doesn’t make the difference in the NFL that one player can in the NBA. Also, there are just not the same amount of trades and even opportunities. Because the NFL isn’t just one stud away, you don’t get a lot of opportunities like Miami did with Tua or the Jets did with Zach Wilson. Both teams got multiple 1sts for players they traded (Jets had 5 1sts in 2021-2022 and Miami had 5 1sts in 2020-2021) and both got top 5 picks to select a QB. They both made some good and bad picks but Miami turned Tua into multiple playoff appearances even though Tua isn’t elite. Wilson was just so bad that the Jets still sucked. We had our opportunity in 2022 where we would have had 6 1sts and 4 2nds in 2023-2025 and probably had a top 5 pick in 2023 or 2024 for a QB without trading up. Unfortunately, Fitterer didn’t have the foresight to realize a full rebuild was necessary and when a team offers you 2 1sts and a 2nd for a non-QB like Tunsil and Burns, you take it. One thing I wish trades had in the NFL that they have in the NBA is protected picks. A moron like Fitterer could have a top 5 protected pick so his terrible GMing doesn’t accidentally give the Bears the #1 overall pick because the moron Fitterer incorrectly thought we were 1 player away from the playoffs.
    • Anyone that believes getting a couple late season wins to end the season at 4-13 while picking 9th in each round, other than 2-15 with the 1st pick in each round is not being realistic.  It happens nearly every other year, Jags gave the browns a insane package to move from 2nd to 5th. If not for late season pointless/everyone forgets late season wins the Panthers would have gotten that franchise changing package. Not to mention Panthers would have had Herbo and Sewell in other years, but nope. Do I need to bring up da bears??? The goal is long term winning in order to make the playoffs, one season to tank could spark it with a Burrow that's gets sacked 60 times on the way to a SB.  I want to win as bad as anyone, but the second the Panthers are eliminated from playoff contention, the ONLY solution is to lose the remaining games to gain a better chance to never do that again. No other answer.
