Should the Panthers let Captain Munnerlyn walk?

Appears that Panthers are willing to let him go on the open market and find out his worth, then see if they want to match or top. Cap was our best DB last year, he walks the hole there gets even bigger. If you can bring him back and not bust bank you must try and do it.

Well if it true they have not approached him how do they know how much he wants?

Kinda what we did with him last year only a bit more complex . Last year was his "prove it deal" he settled for after he found a cold market. He proved it, but how much of that was scheme and a dominant front seven? That's the gamble you take when letting players establish market value. It's a good process to take though. Hurney didn't take that stance (see Godfrey extension).

Munnerlyn won't be back. He had a good year and someone is going to pay him big bucks that we won't come close to matching. Unless he's willing to come back for cheap he'll be in a different uniform next season.

It's too bad, I really disliked Munnerlyn early in his career but he played so well for us this year in a versatile role that gave our defense some flexibility. But I think his potential has maxed out and Gettleman for sure won't spend too much to bring him back. I expect a cheap deal or two for some CBs out there that have some size to them plus a draft pick, but I highly doubt we have much of an improvement from last year's secondary.

I was a little surprised when he said that they have not approached him with a deal.

if you keep getting short deals, chances are you're just filling in until someone better gets there. he screwed himself when he turned down that 3 year deal. foolish choice. I say peace him out, anyone named Josh, take clap and Flo, and Godfrey too.

We need captain bad he is an outstanding blitzing CB.

he gets like 2 sacks a year like this... props to him that, however he balances it out by getting 2nd degree burns from solid WRs every year to. He can tackle but a juke and sprint makes him look really short and average.

3,5 so 4 sacks..

And he as been used as a blitzer during the last 2 or 3 games so this is not bad at all.

delusional...

Do you actually watch the games, or do you base your opinions on Huddle hype?

Remember, these are the same people trying to convince themselves that Julius Peppers was a terrible player after he walked because he wanted more money than we wished to give him. Same thing is happening to Captain right now, and the same thing could very well happen to Hardy is he doesn't lock up a long term deal soon enough.

    • If Reich or Fitterer were still around I think the need to extend Young because of what he cost would be stronger.  And yeah Morgan was Fit's right hand when the call was made but there an equal chance that Dan will see it as a chance to move on from Fit and shake off that stink. Holding out some hope that 3 years and clear eyes will allow for an honest appraisal that Young just aint the guy
    • As far as elite/elevate talent QB’s It’s Allen Mahomes Jackson and Burrow that’s it.  Then we have tiers and those can be debated all day Dak is a good QB but I know this board would want him out of Charlotte if he was the QB here. 2 playoff wins in 10 years. Justin Herbert no playoff wins. Threw 4 interceptions in last years playoff game. 23 TD passes last year. 20 the year below and 25 the year before that. This board loves stats without context and these stats aren’t saying they’re much above complimentary  Kyler Murray isn’t good. I’m not sure how he made this list.  Caleb Williams, Trevor Lawrence both benefiting from some real good offensive coaches right now. They’re both complimentary pieces until proven otherwise  I like Jordan Love. Always have. I wanted to draft him but he isn’t a superstar.  CJ Stroud hasn’t been much better than Bryce after his rookie season. After that Bears game year 2 his numbers very similar to Bryce I will say I think Drake Maye is well on his way to becoming the next top tier QB if I had to pick one from this entire list. I’d also say Baker Mayfield is a damn good QB and I’d take him over most of those guys not in the elite category  Now if you want to debate tools and which QB’s possess tools to put them in higher tiers that’s a completely different discussion. Most QB’s on your main list all have those physical tools that will keep you thinking he’ll become the next top tier QB. They’ll sprinkle in a “wow” play or two a game. Bryce will never look that way. Young’s game at its peak will physically always look different and I think that’s where most people struggle when it comes to seeing how Young’s can be successful in the league  All QB’s need a team around them. I think the Bills are failing Josh Allen much like the Panthers did Cam. Beane and McDermott using same blueprint with Bills team. Josh Allen hasn’t had much in terms of WR’s and it’s ultimately costing them when it matters the most
