Hakeem Nicks: "I can see myself catching passes from Cam Newton" (among others)

What makes a long term deal out of the question? With the cap going up considerably In the next few years and the shitty Hurney contracts finally starting to come off the books in the next few years....why can't we sign him to say a 4 or 5 year deal with more of the money coming in the 3rd and 4th years, or something like that? I think he really wants to come here, and the more I see I think it's a real possibility.

I'm not one of the cap experts on here but there is a big difference between "long term deal" and "guaranteed money".  I would tend to think a long term deal puts us more in the running as I highly doubt HN earned any guaranteed $ with that stinker of a contract season he just had.  Long term deals can be structured to fit our cap and really, has the situation with Smitty not fully demonstrated that a player contract means squat year to year?

In what part of the article did Nicks say this?

Isn't he a FA? I'm sure he could act on it if he wanted to. He needs no ones' permission. The Luck nut huggers are at it again. They make it sound like Nicks is making a special request to play with Luck. Those people are so full of themselves. Can see their little pride in Luck. lol

i know he has a ring already. U must be a bitter Giants fan. That dude gets excited just coming here to play against us so u can't make me believe he doesn't want to play here...sorry! But even If that were true you think that would make me upset or something? Lol

In Colts land Nicks make a special request to play with Luck:

That is the same article we got "I can see myself catching passes from Cam Newton" from. lol

Every fan base will spin it to their liking. Exactly what Nicks and his agent intended it.

The article where he specifically talked about playing at home! http://www.football.com/en-us/hakeem-nicks-dishes-on-free-agency-sb-xlviii-and-the-giants/” (see bottom) He said both so I really don't understand the point of your argument & I if it makes u feel any better Colts have the better chance of getting him cuz they have the $$ but if we had it, it would petty much be a no brainier that he's coming here, tbh.

They both apparently failed to impress, Both had roughly the same number of receptions LaFell 49, Nicks 56, LaFell had the TD's (5), Nicks had the yards 896 and a very respectable 16.0 yards per reception, basically he averaged an extra 20 yards per game than LaFell. LaFell caught 57.6%, Nicks 55.4% but Nicks had a slightly larger percentage of those as deep passes so its pretty negligible.

Sooooo, you tell me?

One was playing injured.

We need to stop with the backloaded contract mess! Signing Bonus/guaranteed money hits up front and spread through the life of the contract! Guaranteed money is what all the players want
Most contracts work that way. It's the amount that counts. Being back loaded doesn't have to mean a huge amount. Could be a couple of million in the first years to not strap the cap, then a substantial increase in the future all this with a signing bonus.
