Top 25 Paid WRs 2014

Way Truth Life

Recommended Posts

In the 2014 season I would take SS 6th overall out of that list, considering the cap hit and the players that I listed.

Stats don't mean squat to me.  SS was not targeted nearly as much as he was when Chud was the OC, but his value was the possession receiving yards.  The drive sustaining catches.  The things that are not shown in the stats but only on the field.  Please tell me you guys haven't forgotten how he dismantled Talib, the 2nd or 3rd best CB in the league??

Every team game plans for SS, all of them!  His stats are not indicative of his play last season.  If you watch the games you know that.

All that we need to know about you....Damn the stats, damn the data, damn facts. Your opinion is all that should matter.

Just stop.

The bad thing is that the list of players getting paid more than Smitty will get smaller and smaller over the next few years...as Smitty's production keeps diminishing.

It's sad to the fans that we have to watch our great prize-fighter's legacy flame out. Meanwhile embittering the entire fanbase because of his ballooning contract and his unwillingness to be more flexible, taking his production and diminished role into consideration and holding the franchise and teammates hostage because of his pride...until the only people that staying a Panther benefits is Smitty and his family and if he doesn't put his pride aside, that will be his legacy.

I'm saying we let SS play in 2014 and either restructure or cut him in 2015 depending on his production. Hopefully Gettleman will get Benjamin and another rookie in here along with a Ginn type WR to compliment SS and allow the Panthers to be competitive next season.

You guys can not really believe that Cam can win with a brand new OL and all new WRs. Do you??

That is all dependent on if Steve restructuring. If he refuses then what?

The OP doesn't even know what he's posting means....

The base salary for 2014 was the chart I showed.  Not the total contract of the player.

The Panthers would obviously renegotiate SS next year.  Cutting him this year just makes little sense unless you are looking to clean house and rebuild.  I just don't see how a 12-4 team does this.

Exactly.

The contract that Smith is playing under now was absolutely structured in such a way that he would never play under the last few years....happens all the time.  Usually said player is either cut, they restructure, or they take a paycut.

Some people with the IQ of a legume (WTL, yes we mean you) just can't seem to understand this.

WTL -

I agree that Smith brings value above and beyond what a stat line can tell us.  There's no question.  Football isn't fantasy, but statistics can show us trends.

That being said, I disagree with your ranking though.  That's simply because of what many of the other WR's can bring to the table NOW and for years to come.

I completely understand the finances of this.

The guaranteed money is $3.6 mill regardless of this year or next.  $4 mill base is NOT too much to pay for SS in 2014 and the Panthers are already on the hook for the guaranteed.  Why cut Smith over $4 mill?  Why not cut him next year or give him a chance to restructure?  It's not like we are going to find a comparable player for $4 mill base i 2014

Well then you don't understand Gettleman.  He will not.  He will find players that are cap friendly.  I doubt he would pay any of those players the Salary they are making except the ones I listed.

I was not saying that he should pay those amount because no WR free agent is on their level. i was trying to prove that Steve Smith of today in not a top 20Wr

    • Plus, all that stuff around his dad being a coach and his kids being athletes...he would have been a different kind of bad from Tepper. Tepper is making bad decisions because he sees every business like a hammer sees every nail. Navarro would have been micromanaging decisions just like Tepper and would have fallen back on his dad being a coach, etc.
