There can be no doubt: Gettleman is in charge

Over the last few days I've heard people suggest there was no way Jerry Richardson would ever allow the team to cut Steve Smith.  A few numbnuts even suggested that Smith had more power to dictate what happened than Gettleman did.

Those theories are pretty much out the window now.

Whatever else happens, there can now be no doubt that this is Dave Gettleman's roster to shape and tweak as he pleases (within the limits of the salary cap mess left to him by Marty Hurney).

Gettleman is in charge.

He is going to make mistakes along the way but everything Gettleman has done so far in his short tenure here has been golden from what I can tell. I expect this move to be no different.  Lots of emotionally brought on "player > team" mentality around here recently. One step back to take two steps forwward.

The owner isn't going to spend any extra dime to improve or win, even if we had the cap space.  Hope the son of a bitch is sitting with his blanket over him in December looking at 30,000 empty blue seats, he likely will since Cam will have nobody blocking for him or anyone to throw the ball to, if he isn't hurt by then.

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
