Jim Kelly, the Hall Of Fame and four-time Super Bowl quarterback who spent his entire NFL career with theBuffalo Bills, recently learned that his cancer has returned.

Kelly was diagnosed with oral cancer initially last summer and had surgery to remove the tumor and cancerous cells and then rebuild his jaw. Chemotherapy and radiation treatment were not deemed necessary at the time. But now the cancer as recurred.

Kelly will travel to New York City next week for treatment. Dr. Thom Loree, head and neck surgeon at The Center for Oncology Care at Eric County Medical Center, issued the following statement on Kelly's behalf.

I hate to add to this but it really is a hard time for the fans of us Bills fans right now.  Ralph C Wilson, Jr. just passed away, and everyones favorite player - or at least QB, is battling for his life.

For those who do not realize what Wilson did for the NFL they really need to go look back at the early days of the AFL.  They were going in to bankruptcy and Wilson bailed them out.  Wilson was interested in an AFL team and was denied the Miami team and could not get a team in Detroit (his hometown).  When the Buffalo option came in he sent a wire to the AFL commisioner that said to count him in for Buffalo.  $25k is all it took to buy the Bills.

The capital gains tax is going to be HUGE.

LA Times write up:

He was in the Navy, fought in World War II and more than once had a front-row seat to history.

"He was a commander on a mine sweeper, which is a wooden boat waiting to be blown up," said Joe Horrigan, vice president of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which enshrined Wilson in 2009. "He was one of the early responders after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was at Hiroshima after the bomb. He was on the Missouri when the Japanese surrender took place. And he would never, ever talk about it.

I'm too new to start a new thread, sorry to be putting this here.

Every time I see this thread bumped I expect to click in and read that he's gone :(

I read an article today that said a cure was possible for him with radiation and chemo.  Don't know what the odds are but hope it works.  Apparantly he did not have either before, guess they thought surgery was enough.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
